Here are the main elements of our topic: Oak Class News Our topic this half term is: Heroes Here are the main elements of our topic: History focus: We will begin by looking at our present day heroes. The children will have an opportunity to bring in pictures of their modern day heroes to talk about with the class. From here, we will introduce Grace Darling to the children as a hero from the past. Together, we will find out what made her such a special person and why her legacy lives on in our local area. We will take the children to Bamburgh to help her story come alive! DT and Art: Children will use a variety of junk modelling materials to design and create their own super hero accessories. They will wear/play with their Superhero gear and use it as an inspiration for art work and creative writing. Computing: Children will learn to log on using their new passwords. We will discuss basic e-safety rules to prepare them for staying safe online. Following this we will look at following and setting precise instructions (algorithms) which is the basis of computer programming. RE: We will start the new school year by looking at some of the Parables Jesus told as well as celebrating Harvest Festival. Science: The children will learn about: Parts of the body, looking at our own bodies, diagrams and skeletons. The 5 senses and investigate each sense. .

Miss Langman, Mrs Smith, Mrs Sapor English News This term, the children will learn: The letters of the alphabet. To spell words containing taught letter sounds. To form lower case letters correctly. Sequence sentences to form short narratives leaving spaces between words and begin to punctuate with capital letters and full stops. Maths News In maths this term the children will be learning to: Count up to (and beyond if able) 20 forwards and backwards in 1s starting from any number. Read and write numerals up to 20. To estimate and count objects to 20 (and beyond if able). Identify 1 more and less of a given number. Add with 1 digit numbers (introduce 1 digit to a 2 digit if able) To know which two numbers add together to make 10 Use and understand mathematical signs = + Other subjects Music: We will be using “Hey You Hip Hop” on the “Charanga” scheme to learn about pulse and rhythm. PE: Dance and games (PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays) PHSE: Healthy lifestyle choices. You can help your child by: Visiting the library to look for books to support our topic Using the internet to research our topic Practising weekly spellings and doing homework tasks. We ask that children read their school reading book 3 times at home to improve their fluency of reading and understanding of text.
