Steps to Formatting Open word document -> insert -> file -> new -> space for search format, type MLA -> classic double spaced -> create You should now be on a full page -> insert -> page # -> scroll to “top of page” -> Scroll to “simple” -> scroll to “plain number 1” In front of the number 1, type your last name and a space -> home -> right align

Cite While You Write: MLA As soon as you use the ideas, words or other intellectual property from an outside source, acknowledge the original work by citing it. Format: include author's last name and page number(s) in parentheses at the end of the sentence Like this: To help her fulfill her Slayer duties, Buffy can always turn to Giles (DeCandido 44).

MLA Works Cited: The Basics Begin your Works Cited page on a separate page at the end of your research paper. It should have the same one-inch margins and last name, page number header as the rest of your paper. Label the page Works Cited (do not italicize the words Works Cited or put them in quotation marks) and center the words Works Cited at the top of the page. Double space all citations, but do not skip spaces between entries. Indent the second and subsequent lines of citations by 0.5 inches to create a hanging indent. Be sure to keep track of the source information as you gather your sources during the research process. You'll need it later when you write your paper.
