Course Preparation In this presentation we inform you about some practical administration/preparation that has to be done when you are to conduct a coaching course. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Course Preparation Preparation As anything in the life, for a successful project, the course must be well prepared Preparation is a concern of the organizer together with the expert Preparation avoids the expert from “surprises” and ultimate “adjustments” Preparation starts a several weeks before the course A good preparation can avoid nasty surprises. An expert is a teacher (among others). A teacher with little experience should prepare his teaching in writing and in great detail. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA 2

Preparation This set of slides is mainly for the course expert Course Preparation Preparation This set of slides is mainly for the course expert We will not cover the task of the host committee including: Registration process / selection of the participants Food arrangements Accommodation arrangements Local transport …. A good preparation can avoid nasty surprises. An expert is a teacher (among others). A teacher with little experience should prepare his teaching in writing and in great detail. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA 3

Six weeks before the course Course Preparation Six weeks before the course FITA sends to the Expert: A letter of appointment to the Expert – Copy to… A PowerPoint presentation of the course with notes for the Expert A list of INTERNET links for the participants of the course as a list of literature to be read before the start of the course Budget information and financial forms A list of contacts of the organizers of the course A FITA document called “Preparation Guidelines” A report form … Although FITA sends you a PowerPoint presentation of the course with notes for the expert, you cannot just go and present this presentation. Personal fill in wil make feel more confortable. Going to conduct a course demands a good preparation before. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA 4

Five weeks before the course Course Preparation Five weeks before the course The expert contacts the organizers and sends: A list of Internet literature to be read by the participants before the course A list of things to prepare. FITA document “Preparation Guidelines” will help the expert, but needs some arrangements to fit the specificity of the course and the way of teaching from the expert. Send pictures of what you really want! The expert asks information from the organizers : Weather Facilities and equipment (generic and specific) Distance accommodation to course location Protocol - VIP’s… Power and plugs Visa – vaccinations ... For a more detailed explanation of the FITA document Preparation Guidelines see the next slides. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA 5

Preparation Guidelines Course Preparation Preparation Guidelines The Preparation Guidelines describes among others: Date, place and objectives of the course Participants number and profiles Travel of the expert Schedule of the course including: breaks, meals, social times... Accommodation wish of the expert List of required items from the organisers List of required items from the participants List of reading before the course ... These guidelines are described in more detail on the next slides. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Requirements from the Organizers Course Preparation Requirements from the Organizers Required items: For the classroom For the archery range In detail the items needed by the expert are described in the Preparation Guidelines. See next slide. Including lay-out of classroom and archery range Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Required Items for the Classroom Course Preparation Required Items for the Classroom Conference set up A white board with pencils A video projector with screen & laser pointer A collar microphone in case of a large audience One level “x” bow with 4 arrows One target (butt, stand and face) Water and glasses Internet connection ... Participants must have: Writing material An elastic band Look around in the classroom you are sitting in at this moment. Note which items you yourself will need. May be you need more, maybe you need less. This is the list of what you expect from the organiser, you must bring your own teaching tools, such as elastic bands, elastic string... Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Classroom set up Course Preparation On the picture above you see the conference set up, with the tables in U-shape and the projector on a small table at the open end of the U. It is not always obvious/allowed to set a target in the classroom, but it helps to demonstrate some points. If you can set one, arrange it for a good observation of your demonstration by the participants. If you cannot, the elastic string will be very helpful. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Archery Range Set Up Course Preparation Decide what kind of items you need on the archery range. This depends on the exercises you prepared. When choosing the shooting distance, keep in mind that some coach candidates have not shop for a while, and/or have brought an unfamiliar equipment (Recurve while shooting Compound for years)… hence a short distance is recommended. Furthermore it will speed up the arrow recuperation process. As you can see behind the shooting line for the participants, there is a special set-up allowing the participants to observe your demonstration in a sitting position, where they also can take notes. Do not keep the participants standing up all day long! In hot period/regions, this sitting area should be shaded. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Items for the range One target for 4 participants Course Preparation Items for the range One target for 4 participants Set of complete and prepared target faces with one, two and three center colors cut out + pins! One chair per person A white board and pencils One mirror per target butt - Size about 16 x 24" or 40 x 60 cm Teaching items: elastic bands, soft juggling balls… And more: masking tape, safety pins… A back-up Indoor facility in case of bad weather The list above is not exhaustive. Items can be skipped as well as added, depending on the course conductors need. It is again the list of the items that you expect from the organizers. You will probably bring some items with you. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Course Preparation From the participants List of items to be brought by the participants, such as: Archery Equipment, indicate the quality level, # of arrows… Elastic band – Describe it or them. Sport suit Pencil and (paper) notebook Memory stick or CD And so on A notebook is necessary for making notes. A paper one will do. It is NOT necessary for the participants to bring an electronic laptop. A memory device might be useful to copy some available information. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA

Preparation follow-up Course Preparation Preparation follow-up Contact the organizers at least once a weak Copy partners: NOC – NAF - … Ask for pictures of the prepared items Call the persons in charge of some specific preparation … Do all you can for pushing the organizers to be prepared on time. Pascal Colmaire – Development & Education Director of FITA
