Important Student Handbook Highlights

Student Services Office The Student Services Office is on the main floor and it is there to provide you extra support and guidance if you need it. Students may ask to go to the SSO to make appointments with Ms. Ironstand the SSO secretary who will schedule their appointments and pass on any important messages to our counsellors and other support staff. Students can access a Counsellor, Community School Liaison, RCMP Liaison and other services from the SSO.

Library The Library is on the main floor and it is there to provide you with research help as well as offering a quiet place to work and study. There are also computers in the library that students can access before and after school for work, e-mail, and other non-academic activities. There is to be no use of computers for e-mail, gaming or other social activities during class time. Students are expected to abide by the acceptable use policy for technology at all times on personal and school devices.

Library (Con’t) The Library is where students will be able to print their projects. There are costs associated with printing. .01 per page black and white printing. .05 per page colour. Students have had $10.00 worth of printing credited to their account. Once this is spent any additional printing must be paid by students.

Attendance & Lateness Attendance in school is mandatory as per the Education Act 1995. It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to call the school to excuse absences. Students are required to make arrangements with their classroom or subject teacher to ensure missing work is completed. If you are late for class come directly to the class you are to attend when you arrive at the school.

Classes & Timetable Grade Seven students will be assigned a full timetable. They cannot drop classes. You will be expected to participate in all academic classes. You will take PAA classes on a five week rotation and will be intermingled with students from the other Grade Seven homeroom classes.

SRC Activities There will be a variety of SRC sponsored activities that will take place throughout the year. These are designed to be fun experiences to build a positive school community. Students are encouraged to participate in the activities that are planned for them. SRC activities will take place in the Caf during the noon hour. If there are school dances, the school dance policy as outlined on pg. 17 of the student handbook will be in effect.

Lunch As was mentioned in the classroom procedure; Grade Seven students will eat their lunch in the Caf. Students may bring their own lunch or may partake of the menu offered by the Commercial Cooking staff. There is a different menu posted each week on the school web page. Students may pay cash for lunch or may make arrangements to have a lunch card set up.

Locks & Lockers You will be assigned a locker and lock at registration. You may not use your own lock. You will also be assigned a Phys-Ed locker and lock. For both of these storage areas it is important not to share the combination to your locker with ANYONE!!!

Appropriate Dress It is important to present ourselves at all times as respectful and responsible members of our school community. As such the following dress code applies: Female/Male Shirts and Blouses must cover all of the front, back, belly, and shoulders. Shirts and blouses must have sleeves. Revealing front tops, backs, exposed shoulders are not acceptable. See through clothing that reveals undergarments is unacceptable. Shorts/Skirts must reach the top of the kneecap. Clothing with inappropriate pictures, cartoons, profane slogans, logos or sayings are unacceptable.

Appropriate Dress (Con’t) Bandanas of any style or colour are not permitted on school property as they are gang symbols. Hoods must not be worn inside the school. Staff must be able to see students’ faces for identification purposes.

Fire & Lockdown Drills Student safety is important at all times of the school day. If there is a drill it is important to listen to the instructions of your teachers. Fire Drill You will remain in the classroom that you are in until notified by the teacher you are working with. When necessary you will follow the instructions of your teacher to evacuate the building in a safe manner. Lock Down You will follow the instructions of the teacher you are with immediately without questions.
