Thank You! Thank you for volunteering your time to assist the Henderson Public Works, Parks and Recreation Department to maintain safety on Henderson trails.

Trail Watch Vision Henderson Trail Watch Volunteers will promote safety and appropriate trail use by providing information and assistance to all trail users, by observing and documenting safety issues requiring attention and by serving as a positive presence on Henderson trails.

Eyes & Ears Only Henderson Trail Watch Volunteers are to: • Be the eyes and ears on the trails only. • Observe and document. • Assist trail users. • Demonstrate and exemplify proper trail use and etiquette.

While on the Trail • Be friendly and approachable. • Wear a Trail Watch vest, armband or t-shirt. • Carry your Trail Watch ID & reference card. • Carry a cell phone at all times. • Always carry plenty of water. • Trail cleanup?

What to Watch For • Emergencies: Call 911 • Suspicious Activity: Call non-emergency 311 Maintenance & Safety Issues: • Graffiti • Trail Hazards • Water line/irrigation issues • Desert Dumping • Vandalism • Concerns

Reporting What You Saw

Trail Watch Report Available at cityofhenderson.com Identified by your Volunteer ID Volunteer ID & Trail Watch Report link will be emailed to you following your training. Report includes: time (round to nearest quarter hour), date, trail, number of users, comments & observations. List multiple dates when using the same trail at the same time.

Reporting Tips The more detailed, the more effective: Locations: Use any points of reference available. Pictures: Can be very useful. Do not take pictures of people: dangerous/unsafe.

Your Observations Are Important! The data collected in your Trail Watch Reports will allow the Henderson Public Works, Parks and Recreation Department to better serve, patrol, and maintain Henderson trails for all trail users. Simply having active and visible volunteers on the trail will reduce undesirable behaviors.

Volunteer Safety Be safe and smart at all times while on the trail. Carry your cell phone at all times. Do not confront trail users: EYES & EARS ONLY! Observe and report.

Volunteer Injuries If you are injured while on the trail acting as a Henderson Trail Watch Volunteer, your injury must be reported in 48 hours. Report your injury by calling the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor at 702-267-4050. If the supervisor is unavailable, please leave a message including name, date, injury and contact number. Worker’s Compensation paperwork must be completed within 7 days.

Henderson Trails Now that you know what to do, where can you do it? Henderson Trails: 215, Armargosa, American Pacific, Anthem East, Boulder Highway, Burkholder, Cactus Wren, Cornerstone Park, Downs 5, Equestrian, Fiesta, Galleria, Green Valley Ranch, Heritage Park, Lake Mead Pkwy, McCullough Hills, Pittman Wash, River Mountains Loop (mm 0-11), Saguaro, Seven Hills, Solista, St. Rose Parkway, Union Pacific Railroad, and Whitney Mesa Nature Preserve, Wetland Trail Connector, Wigwam. Pick up a copy of the Henderson Parks & Trail Map or visit cityofhenderson.com Trail updates are emailed to volunteers as new segments are completed. Volunteer hikes are scheduled for new trails.

Trail Reporting Not all trails shown on the Henderson Parks and Trails Map are owned or maintained by the City of Henderson. Trail systems show connected trails that include public trails that are owned and/or maintained by private and public entities. Please report any concerns via the Trail Watch Report. Concerns will be forwarded to Neighborhood Services. Not all trails are named: do your best to indicate appropriate location. Trail Watch volunteers provide a positive presence on all Henderson trails.

Park & Trail Information Park & Trail Hours: All parks are open daily 6:00 am to midnight. All trails are open daily from 5:00 am-11:00 pm. **Unless otherwise noted at location. Pets: Pets are allowed in the parks and on the trails. They must be leashed at all times. Owners must clean up after their pets. Trail Events, Maintenance, Etc.: Information on events, trail maintenance, and other situations impacting the trails will be emailed to all volunteers. It is important that Trail Watch Volunteers be informed.

Desert Tortoise The Mojave Desert is home to the desert tortoise which is listed as a “threatened” species under the Endangered Species Act. If you see a desert tortoise while in the desert: View it from a distance. Do not pick it up. If you see a desert tortoise wandering in a developed area or you find an injured tortoise, please call the tortoise hotline at 702-383-TORT.

Trail Watch Reminders Always carry plenty of water! Bring a trail map for reference. Wear a hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and weather appropriate clothing. At a minimum, wear your armband, carry your ID badge & cell phone.
