“Jesus is Building His Church” Matthew 16:13-19

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

“But what about you. ” he asked. “Who do you say I am “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Matthew 16:18

“The Church isn’t my hard work, your earnest effort, our long range planning, or heavy duty giving. The Church is a gift, a visitation, an intrusion of the living Christ standing among us.”

Nicene Creed We believe in one God,  the Father, the Almighty,  maker of heaven and earth,  of all that is, seen and unseen.  We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,  the only Son of God,  eternally begotten of the Father,  God from God, Light from Light,  true God from true God,

begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father begotten, not made,  of one Being with the Father.  Through him all things were made.  For us and for our salvation  he came down from heaven:  by the power of the Holy Spirit  he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,  and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;  he suffered death and was buried.  On the third day he rose again  in accordance with the Scriptures;  he ascended into heaven  and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,  and his kingdom will have no end.  We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,  who proceeds from the Father and the Son.  With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified .  With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.  He has spoken through the Prophets.  We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.  We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.  We look for the resurrection of the dead,  and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.” Matthew 16:17

So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” I Samuel 8:4-5

But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No. ” they said But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us.” I Samuel 8:19
