2014 Entry You must have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent) which must include an English-based subject and Mathematics or a Science subject. Equivalent qualifications include Key Skills Level 2; Learn Direct Level 2; and Functional Skills Level 2. PLUS EITHER A minimum of 280 UCAS points, including 240 UCAS points from A Levels including a C in a Science subject (science subject could be Biology; Physics; Chemistry; Psychology; Sociology; Health and Social care). BTEC National Diploma at a DMM grade in Health and Social Care or a science based subject. BTEC QCF Extended Diploma at grade DMM/BTEC QCF Diploma at grade D*D* in Health and Social Care or a science based subject. OCR National Extended Diploma at a M2 grade CACHE Diploma at a B grade (300 UCAS points)

Access to HE Diploma Full award (60 credits) of which a minimum of 45 must be at Level 3 with at least 24 of these Level 3 credits at Merit or Distinction (including 18 credits from a Science or Health based subject). You are also required to achieve 12 credits at Level 2 or 3 in English and 12 credits at Level 2 or 3 in Mathematics. Foundation Degree in a related subject e.g. health and social care; traditional sciences; social sciences; psychology; sociology Applicants must have evidence of study in the last five years Undergraduate or Postgraduate degrees will be considered without the GCSE requirement

Those meeting the entry requirements may be shortlisted for interview and will be expected to undertake a written and numeracy test as part of the selection process.

Good health and good character are fundamental to being a midwife, and consequently all midwifery students must have an enhanced DBS check. Professional courses are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and all previous convictions, cautions etc. must be declared. You will also require satisfactory health clearance. As students will undertake exposure-prone procedures as part of their training they will be required to have additional screening for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Value-added components to the course: UNICEF (UK) BREAST FEEDING INITIATIVE (BFI) An accredited programme aimed at university department responsible for midwifery and health visitor/public health nurse education that ensures newly qualified midwives and health visitors are equipped with the basic knowledge and skills they need to support breastfeeding effectively. NEWBORN & INFANT PHYSICAL EXAMINATION (NIPE) A service improvement programme to improve the consistency, timeliness and quality of the newborn examinations thereby reducing late diagnoses.
