Social Studies

Science The Elementary Science curriculum is designed to tap the natural curiosity of our students in order to promote the development of a life long appreciation for science in their daily lives. The curriculum supports the three major disciplines of science – Earth, Life, and Physical Sciences – while reinforcing math and reading skills. Through the inquiry based approach, students learn the process of science, develop critical thinking skills, and work cooperatively in groups to solve problems. All units of study in the elementary science curriculum emphasize the processes of science including measuring, communicating, classifying, ordering, recognizing relationships, hypothesizing, using models, interpreting data, identifying and controlling variables, and conducting experiments. 3rd grade science consists of units of Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science and Space and Technology.

*** Be sure to check it regularly!*** Genesis Grades The grades are into Genesis once the papers are graded. The grades on Genesis are not entered any lower than a 50%. If your child received a 25% of his/her paper, you will see a 50% entered into Genesis, but the paper will reflect the actual percentage. *** Be sure to check it regularly!***

Friday Folders – Starting Friday! Each week the children will bring home their papers. Not all papers are graded. Papers that are done as practice or completed as a class will not receive a grade, but be checked over. Please sign to show you reviewed papers DWT- Done with teacher *** Please sign and return and D/F papers ***

Birthdays Students are able to bring in treats to celebrate birthdays. The treats cannot list the first ingredient as sugar and must have an ingredients label on them. Students in the class may have nut allergies, so treats sent to school must be NUT FREE. Alternative goodies and the safest goodies to send are non edible items, such as, stickers, erasers, pencils, personal pencil sharpeners, highlighters, and/or small game or toy items. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. ** Please let me know when you plan to bring in the treats/goodies so we can plan accordingly **

Dismissal If you child is going home a different method than usual, please feel free to shoot me an email or a quick note. WALKERS: Please make sure a teacher sees you as you pick up your child outside the door. I understand it can get crazy, but we need to make sure your child is safe.

Thank you for coming. It will be a great year!
