Presentation transcript:

Why do our bodies need food? Did you ever skip a meal and find that you were too tired to do much of anything? Why do our bodies need food?

the sun! We need food to give us energy. People are alive, and all living things and natural processes on Earth need energy. The main source of almost all heat and light energy on Earth is the sun!

Replaced in our lifetime CLEAN ENERGY

Can NOT be replaced in our lifetime DIRTY ENERGY

Made from the remains of plants and sea/land animals millions of years ago.

Solid, black, lumpy

Nonrenewable Resources PETROLEUM A liquid fossil fuel that is refined into different substances such as chemicals, fuel (gasoline), oil, wax, etc…

Nonrenewable Resources NATURAL GAS A fossil fuel that often forms on top of petroleum. It is collected by drilling wells into the Earth and letting the gas flow through pipes. Used for heating and to generate electricity.

Nonrenewable Resources NUCLEAR Energy that comes from the nuclei, or center, of atom. When the nucleus of an atom of an atom splits apart, it produces a great deal of energy. One element particularly used for nuclear energy is URANIUM
