Sample Math In order to ride Wicked at Lagoon, you have to be at least 48 inches tall. Work with your team to describe what this height restriction would look like mathematically using an inequality. List 10 heights that would be allowed on the ride and 10 that would not be. How many possible heights are there? What can you say about the solution set of inequality? Illustrate on a number line to show all of the possible heights for Wicked.

Does my child have homework? Math – short math homework, 2-3 times per week, to practice what was taught in class that day. Should not take longer than 20-30 minutes! Reading – We ask for 100 minutes minimum a week (20 min a day). Signed reading logs are due each Friday. This is less than previous years because of how busy 6th graders become. Language Arts/Greek and Latin – Various weekly assignments that are due every Friday.

Weekly Tests Each Friday your child will take a Spelling and Greek/Latin test. Grades are put onto SIS by the following Monday. Your child should be studying these words (both spelling and vocabulary) each night in order to do well on these weekly tests. Sample Greek and Latin question: Cats and dogs are an example of these: a. quadrupeds b. bipeds c. tripods d. peddlers

Planner See the planner for Spelling and Greek/Latin homework details. Both are due by Friday. This papers should be signed and turned in on Friday.

SIS SIS is a wonderful resource to check grades! Students know on Monday what they are missing because of their Monday Mailer. We update SIS a few times a week. We recommend that you choose a day of the week to check SIS with your student. You should know your student’s login information. Passwords can be changed on the Nebo webpage.

Monday Mailer Your child will bring home their Monday Mailer folder each Monday. There will be a missing grade report or an “All Caught Up” Pass inside. In addition, there will be notes and graded papers/tests. You need to look over this information, clean out the folder, and then sign it.

Email & 6th Grade Site In addition to the Monday Mailer, we use email and our 6th grade site to communicate. We are trying to conserve money and therefore we will be communicating electronically as much as possible. Please check your email often. Our 6th grade site is: so6.weebly.com Please bookmark it and refer to it often.

Technology/Electronic Devices Nebo Student Electronic Device Policy 3.1.1 Electronic devices may be used during a class period or school activity when specifically approved by the teacher or a school administrator in conjunction with educationally appropriate objectives. A teacher or school administrator should only authorize the use of electronic devices during a class period or other school activities when it benefits and enhances the students’ education. Such matters may be addressed in a disclosure document provided by the teacher outlining class rules, procedures, and expectations.

Please stop by your child’s classroom to grab permission forms and sign up as a lead volunteer for PTA room helpers or various activities throughout the upcoming year.
