Engineering expertise + Racing credentials From Lancer Evolution to Outlander PHEV to…

100,000 Outlander PHEVs 30% EU PHEV market PHEV in Europe 100,000 Outlander PHEVs 30% EU PHEV market

PHEV in Norway 10,000 Outlander PHEVs # 2 Overall N – Market # 1 EV/HEV/PHEV # 1 SUV # 1 4WD

The Norwegian Government – a long term strategy Plan to phase out petrol and diesel cars by 2025 Not a ban... ...Done by adjusting registration duties to such extent so that EVs, HEVs and PHEVs gradually become ”the obvious choice”...

Registration duty – an incentive Paid at 1st registration 3 factors count in: => Kg (kerb weight) - progressive => CO2 (g/km) - progressive => NOx (mg/km) - flat PHEVs get 26% of the weight deducted before calculation HEVs get 20% of the weight deducted before calculation EV No registration duty

Mitsubishi Motors 4WD Systems

From K-cars – Viscous coupling… FRONT ENGINE VISCOUS COUPLING MMC’s K-cars (like “eK”) are available in a 4WD version. This 4WD system is the most basic system Mitsubishi Motors has in its line up. On this front-wheel drive car, a viscous coupling “locks” the rear wheels in case of rotation speed between front and rear axle (i.e. slip of the front wheels) REAR

… to Lancer Evolution – Full time 4WD w/S-AWC Super – All Wheel Control (ASC/ABS/AYC/ACD)

What is S-AWC ?

What is S-AWC’s philosophy ? ・Longitudinal and Lateral Vehicle Dynamics Behavior are controlled using Driving and Braking Force Control ・S-AWC controls ACD, AYC, ABS, ASC comprehensively as master controller, and the vehicle dynamics performance is improved seamlessly whatever the driving conditions Longitudinal Behavior Lateral Behavior Driving Force Braking Force

S-AWC as applied to Outlander PHEV

Outlander PHEV - S-AWC system overview PHEV ECU (Master) Engine ECU Front Motor ECU Rear Motor ECU ASC ABS ECU SAS High Contrast Meter This picture gives an overview of the S-AWC system. (Mention the parts) The PHEV-ECU gets information via CAN bus from wheel speed, G and Yaw rate sensor, steering wheel sensor. Etc and other ECU’s to detect driver demand and vehicle behavior. The PHEV then controls front and rear motor torque and braking force based on the mentioned vehicle information to achieve best vehicle stability and performance. The control state is transmitted to the meter and can be displayed in the multi-information display. The torque request calculated by the PHEV ECU is send to the engine ECU. RMCU and FMCU via CAN Bus.

S-AWC - Integrated in PHEV-OS S-AWC System Twin (E) Motor 4WD System Active Yaw Control Anti-Skid Braking System Active Stability Control Driver control and information Twin Motor 4WD Lock can be selected by driver S-AWC display with YAW control and driving force information

Outlander PHEV - Benefit of Twin Motor 4WD Compatible cornering and traction performances smoothly Ideal driving force distribution can be realized in any condition No rotational restriction between front and rear wheels Acceleration Ideal Driving Force Distribution Twin Motor 4WD Cornering Rear Motor Front Motor Distribution ratio Battery (0 to100) (100 to 0) lateral longitudinal

PHEV Future Development # 1 - Optimized dynamics Expanding Driving Fields S-AWC is studying to be Integrated the driving force management Control Strategy Sporty Driving Acceleration Pedal Driving Motor Force Stable Driving on Snow/Ice
