Espace TEAM BUILDING 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course

Section 1 – TEAM BUILDING Team Building including games, tasks, finding strengths and weaknesses Mission Patches Must show diagrammatically what you hope to achieve in this course 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course

Human Letters Separate into groups of four to five people. Once the teams are separated, a "ref" will call out a short French word. The teams are then supposed to spell the word with their bodies. The first team to spell a recognizable word wins the round. The team with the most victories at the end will win a prize. 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course

Team Ship Lay an old sheet on the floor. Tell the pupils that as a team, they need to get everyone completely onto the sheet. As pupils are successful, fold the sheet in half. Repeat until the sheet is so small that the team must use their team skills to get everyone onto the sheet at once. 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course

TEAM BUILDING Part 2 Later in the Course Espace 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course

Virtual Challenge We will set up a GLOW group and GLOW chat One team will be in the science lab (on board the spacecraft) One team will be at Mission Control Houston!

Apollo 13" Game "In the film "Apollo 13," the spaceship's crew faces an explosion that results in damage to the ship. Technicians from NASA must use video and audio communication to talk the crew through the repair process using only the materials the astronauts have on hand. 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course

Apollo 13" Game The exercise involves making a filter fit into a different-sized hole using only limited materials. Give teams a similar exercise using household items and only limited tools. They must work out a solution without the ability to give hands-on advice. Virtual teams must communicate, as NASA did, through their computers to solve the problem in the allotted time. 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course

Apollo 13" Game Give all team members the exact same task and materials, without guidance from management. An example task is to suspend a paper clip 25 cm from the floor without touching the ground. Give each group a few feet of string, several inches of duct tape, scissors, clay, a thumbtack, a blank CD, a toilet paper roll, a rubber band, four toothpicks, a 1m of plastic wrap and a paper clip. 02/12/2011 Espace Skills Course
