Supporting Associations Through Benefit Education Training Module 1 Supporting Associations Through Benefit Education

Training Module 1 Thank you for choosing to become a Benefits Ambassador! This is a great way to support your association. The goal of this training module is to give you a better understanding of how TRTA and AMBA work together.

Training Module 1 TRTA & AMBA History Partners for Growth

TRTA History

TRTA History Formed in 1953, the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) is the largest association in the nation for retired teachers. TRTA has more than 80,000 members who continue to be involved in local public school education and in the well-being of their communities. TRTA’s collaborative efforts with the Texas Legislature and active educator groups have helped ensure retirement security for over 300,000 retirees and nearly 1,000,000 active employees.

TRTA History In 2013, TRTA helped to pass Senate Bill 1458, which made the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) pension fund actuarially sound and provided the first cost–of–living increase for some retirees in over 12 years. This also safeguarded the fund for future retirees, most of whom will not receive Social Security benefits and rely upon TRS as their sole source of retirement income. TRTA continues to be an advocate for all retired educators in the state of Texas giving them a voice in the legislature and acting as a watchdog for pensions and benefits.

AMBA History

AMBA History Association Member Benefits Advisors (AMBA) was founded in 2001 but our history dates back to 1982. In 1982, our founder learned that access to Medicare supplement policies was not easily available to Texas retired educators. TRTA endorsed the policy AMBA offered for retired educators and the history of our partnership began.

AMBA History Soon after offering a Medicare supplement policy as a member benefit, AMBA secured more benefits for TRTA members. Today, AMBA is able to offer members access to dental & vision plans, long-term care insurance, cancer/heart/stroke policy, Medicare supplement policies, life insurance, annuities, Medical Air Services Association (MASA), and many merchant discounts. In addition to TRTA benefits, members also have access to local AMBA representatives to review all of their member benefits and answer insurance questions.

AMBA Today We make benefits available to active and retired educators in over 30 states Blue states represent AMBA endorsements

How AMBA works with TRTA

AMBA Working with TRTA TRTA learned that one of the biggest membership builders were dental and vision plans. Retiring educators can join TRTA and enroll in their dental and vision plans and carryover coverage in their retirement years. AMBA is dedicated to improving the lives of retired educators by offering benefits from someone they can trust.

AMBA Working with TRTA AMBA has two different divisions that our Benefit Representatives work in with active and retired TRTA members. These representatives are licensed with the state in the products that they help members with. Worksite Division: These agents work with active personnel and meet with them at their place of business to help them decide which benefits are right for them Senior Division: These agents work with retirees and meet with them at their home to help them select benefits Worksite and Senior division representatives also work to recruit new TRTA members.

AMBA Working with TRTA 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 TRTA Members Recruited by AMBA Benefit Offerings As you can see, members are interested in TRTA benefits and join the association to gain access to them. Since 2003, we have helped acquire 32,879 new members for TRTA through the work of our Benefit Representatives and direct mail.
