My Personal connection Growing up, I had dreams of playing college soccer and would do just about anything to prove my worth on the field. January 1st, 2000 At age 9, I had my first undiagnosed concussion. My biggest concern at the time was getting back to my team. I convinced everyone, including myself, that I was okay and I went back to practice the very next day.

Collegiate career Summer 2008-Spring 2009 I experienced 4 concussions within my first year and a half of playing Division 1 college soccer. After my 3rd and worst concussion, I temporarily experienced memory loss and difficulties with speech and attention span. School work and common tasks, such as reading or sleeping, became difficult for me.

Life with post concussion syndrome November 2016 Daily headaches Occasional migraines Difficulties with memory and attention span Neck pain Random spells of vertigo Mood swings Visual difficulties Cognitive fatigue Development Manager at the Concussion Legacy Foundation Our mission is to solve the concussion crisis through education, policy and research We are focused on identifying the risk factors and protecting at-risk groups, including athletes of all ages, military personnel and veterans

Safer Soccer – No headers before high school At least 30 % of concussions are caused by the act of attempting to head the ball No amount of training is going to prevent uncoordinated, weak-necked children from colliding and getting concussions US Youth Soccer implemented no heading before the age of 11 Cindy Parlow Cone Former US Women's Soccer Player Brandi Chastain Former US Women's Soccer Player

Safer Soccer Coalition Experts Brandi Chastain Cindy Parlow Cone Joy Fawcett Julie Foudy Kristine Lilly Tony DiCicco Jerry Smith Taylor Twellman Steve Jolley Ronnie Pascale & over a dozen top concussion experts

No tackle football - It Can Work “Tommy did not play football until he was 14, because we didn't think he was physically developed enough to play the sport. It's the same reason I wouldn't let him throw a curveball until that age. Tom Brady Sr.

Solving the concussion crisis Next week, a city near Boston will be banning tackle football for youth athletes under the age of 14, the first government organization to take that step. Research on the long-term effects of concussion and CTE was ignored until just 10 years ago, and we need answers quickly. We need to continue to increase our commitment to research to develop effective treatments and interventions for athletes, military veterans, and other at-risk groups. It is not normal to hit our children in the head hundreds of times - we can prevent these issues through good policy, education and continued research!
