Key Achievements of the Greeks Politics - Democracy greatly expanded in Athens. Philosophy –Greeks created a deep knowledge of human nature that would influence future thinkers world wide. (Ex: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle) Intellectual – Curiosity, individualism Other neat things that impact us today!! Writing – Literature and drama that is still read today! Astronomy – Accurate predictions about sun, moon stars Science & Math – Found patterns in the natural world Sports - The Greeks start the Olympic games. Art – Greek paintings, architecture and sculptures set the norms for most of the Western world since their time. (ex: Parthenon & Acropolis)

Democracy Vocab Democracy: Rule by the people. This means people have a say in who their leaders are. Direct Democracy: This is where people vote on all the laws themselves directly, not through representatives. Athens develops into a direct democracy with Pericles.
