The Bible Speaks To Our Condition: The Hem of His Garment A Look at Lk 8:43-48

Introduction Have you ever spent time reading through your Bible and find yourself asking, “Why is this account here?” Why is it important that we know about a woman who touched Jesus and was healed…there are plenty of examples of miracles to be found The answer is quite simple: This was placed for our learning because the Bible speaks to our condition today This is the story of a woman who showed characteristics we would all do well to posses today Desperation Determination Deliverance Declaration

A Desperate Woman (vs 43) The story of her problem is laid out in one verse She had an incurable disease She had spent all she had on physicians She was considered ceremonially unclean She represents a picture of many today Physically, we are all headed toward death Financially, money cannot always get us that which we desire Spiritually, sin may be separating us from God (she was not permitted to enter the temple)

A Determined Woman (vs 44) “Came from behind and touched the border of His garment” What might have discouraged or impeded her efforts The great crowd of people surrounding Him (vs 45) The perceived importance of His mission Her physical appearance (poor and broke) Mk 5:28 gives us insight into her thinking Mk 5:28 “For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Despite all the obstacles she faced, she pressed on and wouldn’t be denied…what a great example for us today

A Woman’s Deliverance (vs 45-46) Her deliverance came from contact with Jesus The touch of His garment was a touch based on faith (cf. 48) She exercised far greater faith than many of us toady…Do we believe in the healing power of Jesus today She got the reward she was seeking Lk 8:48 “And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” Is your strength strong enough to help lead you to your reward

A Woman’s Declaration (vs 47) “Who touched me?” Did Jesus know who? Notice her declaration Mk 8:47 “Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.” Are you willing to declare your faith and healing to the world today Her declaration is still heard today

Conclusion Does your faith drive you to seek out Christ at all cost in times of desperation How determined are you to get to Christ…are you allowing people, places or circumstances to hold you back Are you ready to be delivered out of the grip of the world and into the arms of Christ The time has come for you to declare to the world that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and show your faith in Him
