Your Personal Philosophy The Essence of Education

Your Personal Philosophy The Essence of Education “To redeem our view of the possibilities in education, we need to explore common ground and allow our differences to recede enough to achieve unity of purpose. It is my firm conviction that noteworthy change will occur if youth parents, teachers, school boards and community leaders reach within themselves to find their own deeper understanding of what is really important and then exercise the courage needed to put those convictions into action.” - Mike Seymour

Your Personal Philosophy The Essence of Education “I believe that all education proceeds by the participation of the individual in the social consciousness of the race. … I believe that the only true education comes through the stimulation of the child's powers by the demands of the social situations in which he finds himself. Through these demands he is stimulated to act as a member of a unity, to emerge from his original narrowness of action and feeling and to conceive of himself from the standpoint of the welfare of the group to which he belongs.” - John Dewey

Your Personal Philosophy The Essence of Education “We get so caught up in debating whether or not we should extend the school year that we seem to forget to consider what should go into that year. We seem to forget about our vision of education and the kind of educational practices that will move the school in the direction we value. Too often we find ourselves implementing policies that we do not value. Those of us in education need to take a stand and to serve as public advocates for our students. Who speaks for our students? We need to.” – Elliot Eisner

Your Personal Philosophy The Essence of Education … “A school is where they grind the grain of thought, And grind the children who must mind the thought. It may be those two grindings are but one, As from the alphabet come Shakespeare's Plays, As from the integers comes Euler's Law, As from the whole, inseperably, the lives, The shrunken lives that have not been set free By law or by poetic phantasy. But may they be. ” – Howard Nemerov

Your Personal Philosophy The Essence of Education “The reason I believe it is important to have a vision of education is because without one we have no compass.” – Elliot Eisner http://teed540.wikispaces.com/Essence+of+Education
