Upper Phase Maths Workshop Wednesday 25th January
Aims for this session Share games you can play to develop your child’s mathematical skills Help you understand about the expectations for each year group Share our enthusiasm for maths! Enable you to enjoy helping your child with maths
Bingo! Choose 6 numbers that are multiples of 7 to fill in your first bingo card. Get ready to cross out numbers as they come up! Stand up when you only have 1 number left. Call “bingo!” when you have all numbers crossed out. There are lots of ways to vary this game…
Pairs Use the angle cards. Place them face down and arrange them in rows. Take turns to turn over 2 cards. If they match, keep the pair, otherwise replace them, face down. The winner is the player with most pairs. There are lots of ways to vary this game…
The nice game Use the digit cards and place value grid. Shuffle and place in a pile. Take turns to place them into one of the spaces on your place value grid. Keep going until all of the cards have been used. You can place cards on top of others, but all of the spaces need to be filled. The winner is the one with the highest number. There are lots of ways to vary this game…
The nasty game This is the same as the last game, except you can put your digit card onto the other player’s grid if you want to!
Using dice A die can be used to generate numbers for lots of investigations and games. You have a 10 sided die in your pack. Make a subtraction problem by rolling the die 4 times to make a 4 digit number, then roll it 3 times to make a 3 digit number. Now do the subtraction. (In school, our dice are 0 – 9. This die is 1 -10. You will need to count the 10 as 0.)
Maths With Parents A new initiative in Year 3 and Year 4
