Unit 7: Multi National Conglomerate- Walt Disney Ethan Mclaughlin

Sector Walt Disney Studios is apart of lots of different sectors within the creative media industry Including: Film, television, animation, games, radio and interactive media

Overview Disney is an American media conglomerate. It is the world's second largest media conglomerate in terms of revenue, after Comcast. Disney was founded on October 16, 1923. The company is best known for the products of its film studio, Walt Disney Studios, which is today one of the largest and best-known studios in cinema. Disney's other three main divisions are Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Disney Media Networks, and Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media.

Structure and Ownership Disney is a conglomerate, meaning that it is made up of lots of different business and companies. Disney would be the parent company and all the other ones would be subsidiaries.

Sources of income As Disney owns lots of different companies, they will make money of their products, including products of Marvel Studios Lucasfilm ltd. Pixar ESPN ABC

Product diversity Disney has a very wide product diversity including films, television programmes radio shows toys video games clothing

Profitability of product range There is definitely lots of profit to be made in Disney’s product range, especially films, for example within the top 20 highest grossing films ever, Disney or companies owned has made 10 of them, the most notable being the Force Awakens, which made over 2 billion dollars.

Competitors Disney has 5 main competitors, Viacom, Time Warner, Fox, CBS and Comcast, while they are competitors Disney is usually on top in terms of revenue. In 2016 Disney made 55.63 Billion dollars, where as Viacom, time warner, fox and CBS made 12.49, 28.11, 28.98, 13.88 billion dollars respectively.

Rating as a career choice I would love to work with Disney or a Disney owned company, especially working on a Marvel or Lucasfilm production.
