Barnaby Bear visits the Ocean.

Barnaby Bear visits the Ocean Look how big the PacificOcean is. It’s ENORMOUS! Did you know that 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans?

I went on my computer to find out some information about the Pacific Ocean. Have a look at some of the interesting facts I found out. Volcanoes: What is the ring of fire? Most of the volcanoes (actually 75%) on earth are located in the Pacific Ocean basin, the volcanoes actually form a ring around the basin and therefore it is called the ring of fire. The Pacific Ocean is the biggest ocean in the world. The Atlantic Ocean is the second biggest. What does pacific mean? Pacific means "peaceful", coming from the Latin "pace" for peace Did you know that most of the world’s supply of fish is caught in the Pacific? Pacific Ocean Facts: The Great Barrier Reef: The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest reef in the world stretching over more than 2,300km/1,429miles and including more than 1,000 islands.

Barnaby Bears journey…. I visited the Pacific Ocean in a submarine. This meant that I could go under the water and see all of the amazing things that live in the ocean.

I met some friends on my journey. Tiger shark Great White Shark I met some friends on my journey. Whale Shark Hammerhead shark

I learnt that sharks can breath under water. Sharks have sharp teeth I learnt that sharks can breath under water. Sharks have sharp teeth. This is a Great White Shark. It’s the deadliest shark in the ocean. It has 50 sharp teeth.

The Whale Shark is the biggest fish in the ocean The Whale Shark is the biggest fish in the ocean. It can weigh as much as three elephants.

I met some seahorses on my journey I met some seahorses on my journey. Can you guess why they are named seahorses? I found out that a group of seahorses is called a herd. A seahorse can live between 1 and 5 years. They don’t have any teeth. They like eat small fish. Some seahorses like to swim with a partner with their tails together. A

SPLASH!!

Whales are mammals just like us except they live in the ocean Whales are mammals just like us except they live in the ocean. Whales breathe air as we do. Therefore, they need to reach the surface of the ocean to breathe because they cannot breathe underwater. To breathe, whales have a blowhole in the top of their heads. When they reach the surface, they take air in through this blowhole. The Blue Whale is the largest animal to have ever lived. It can be 100 feet in length and weigh 120 tons. Each whale species has its own variety of sound or song, which can be a click, groan, whistle, creak, burp, cry, scream, or chirp. Some sounds are inaudible to humans but can be heard by other whales thousands of miles away. Have a listen to the sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WabT1L-nN-E

I seen lots of different types of fish I seen lots of different types of fish. Look at all the beautiful colours.

I even met a very friendly dolphin.

Talk with a partner to describe some of the the amazing things Barnaby has seen today.
