Standards Based Gradebook 5 UNITS* = 60% of Semester Grade Unit 1 - Roots, Research, Neuroscience * (12%) Unit 2 - Biology and Behavior * (12%) Unit 3 - Learning and Cognition * (12%) Unit 4 - Personality * (12%) Unit 5 – Individual & Group Variances * (12%) *Within each unit: a) formative assessments (40%): interactive reading/vocabulary, internet activities from textbook publisher, reading analyses, lab participation, FRE workshops b) summative assessment (60%): Unit Exam

*Unit Test Corrections My assurance that students correct their mistakes in thinking before Comprehensive Exams 64 original score is 36 points away from 100% Corrections earn back ½ the distance to the goal: (18 for ex) ~ (I am here for re-teaching/clarification) 64 + 18 = 82 82% is the new grade recorded  (hopefully, they won’t make the same mistake twice, now have a ready made study guide for concepts needing review before comprehensive exams)

Standards Based Gradebook (continued) UNIT 6 - COMPS = 40% of Semester Grade 6 week comp (MC exam (66%)/ FRE portfolio (34%) ) 12 week comp (MC exam (66%) / FRE portfolio (34%) ) 18 week comp (MC exam (66%)/ FRE portfolio (34%) ) Psychology in the Media Project (100%) By semester’s end – each will weigh 10% NO TEST CORRECTIONS for points, but for learning – definitely 

Tutorials, Test Corrections & Make-up Work Any morning: 7:30 – 8:00. Ms. Shelnutt is available before school, too! 

The kids said it! READ the textbook and take your OWN notes – SQ3R works! (No typewritten vocab) Don’t cram – use distributive practice! Use Psy 101 videos on blog. Will remain the 1st link ALL YEAR! USE them…. ONE HOUR every day – rehearse & practice!!! Read the blog. Don’t be absent. Application is THE most important part of interactive vocabulary! Make it relevant and personal…. (meaningfulness increases retention)

EVERY CHAPTER (formative assessments) SQ3R - reading and note taking strategy http://www.studygs.net/texred2.htm Interactive Vocabulary – 3 parts (textbook definition, in my own words, REAL world application w/ personal being BEST) Study Guides…..do them! They are exactly like the Unit tests. Web Quiz (WQ) – w/15?s, 100% required Lab Packets (most chapters) https://bcs.worthpublishers.com/myers10e **takes time, effort, rehearsal and practice**

CLASSROOM EXPECTATION = RESPECT! Nothing matters more than how we treat each other. If you can’t be kind, say nothing. BEFORE/AFTER lectures, b/t activities – trash, pencil sharpener, etc… Use “hall pass card” only in emergencies Hands off my desk (entrance table has sanitizer, tissues, pens, pencils, etc…) Leave a clean work area – it’s a sign of respect!  School rules enforced (dress code, tardies, no cell phone use, IPods, etc….) Have FUN….always
