Non-Emergency HazMat Spill Response Facility Name & Spills Non-Emergency HazMat Spill Response Title slide. Enter your facility name in the subtitle block. The trainer may edit this slide presentation to suit his or her specific location.  The edited presentation can then be used to supplement the training video.

The trainer who customizes this presentation for a specific facility may use all of these topics and slides or select only certain ones. The trainer can then modify or delete any slide in this template to suit his or her facility’s situation. Some of this information may already have been fully covered in Hazard Communication, RCRA or other employee training.  Delete slides that are not needed because the topic has already been covered in other training. The trainer will probably want to delete this slide and the next one from the final training presentation. Photo / Graphic Customization : To delete box - click on Optional Photo/Graphic box and press delete. To insert your image - Double click on Optional Photo / Graphic Customization box. This will take you to the Power Point clip art gallery. Select the PICTURES tab. IMPORT your image or clip into the PICTURES gallery. Select or highlight your image and click INSERT. Who to Call Emergency Coordinator EHS specialist Supervisor contact Enter the names and contact information (telephone number, cell number, pager number, radio channel) for the Emergency Coordinator(s) and/or EHS specialist(s) at the facility. These should be the persons that non-HAZWOPER personnel can call for help and/or must call to notify of a hazmat spill response action.

Important Documents Emergency Response Plan (ERP) Contingency Plan location Contingency Plan Spill Control Plan/Procedures Other If you want non-HAZWOPER employees to have access to them, enter the names of important control documents: the facility Emergency Response Plan (ERP), RCRA Contingency Plan, and/or Spill Control Procedures. Also indicate where these documents can be viewed and how. Delete this slide if not needed.

Alarms/Emergency Communications Alarm protocol(s) Individual area alarms Facility alarm Alarm locations Office Warehouse Exterior Other If you want employees to make notification of a hazmat emergency by some method other than contacting the Emergency Coordinator or EHS specialist, on the left side of this slide, identify how employees are to make these notifications. If there are alarm systems in place, where and how can they be activated. Are the alarms local area only or facility-wide? Identify any special radio channels for hazmat emergencies. On the right side of the slide, you may insert any photos or graphics of the alarm system or radios, if available. Delete this slide if not needed.

“Individual” Work Areas Manufacturing area 1 Warehouse area 2 Shipping & Receiving area 3 Maintenance area 4 If feasible, define the individual work areas for each group of employees. Enter the departments or functions on the left side of the slide and the work area on the right side. Remember that non-HAZWOPER employees may only respond to hazmat spills in their normal work areas (except for trained maintenance staff), so it is important that each employee understand his or her work area’s boundaries. Duplicate this slide if your facility has many individual work areas. Make sure to identify who is authorized to respond to small leaks or spills of hazardous waste.  Address each satellite accumulation area as well as 90-day/180-day accumulation location(s) Delete this slide if not applicable.

Hazardous Materials On-site HazMat Facility Location #1 area 1 #2 area 2 #3 area 3 This slide is to list all the hazardous materials present at your facility and the location(s) where each is present. The “Facility Location” column should correspond to the “Individual Work Areas” identified in the last slide. This slide will tell each employee exactly which hazardous materials are present in his/her work areas. If there are special response or clean-up procedures for any listed hazmat, you may wish to discuss them. Use the next 2 slides if additional hazmat needs to be listed. 8

Materials such as water reactives, strong oxidizers, inhalation hazards, liquid mercury and acute hazardous wastes may fall into this category. On the right side of this slide, you may enter the locations of each of these materials at the facility or insert photos or graphics of these hazardous materials. Employees should be instructed that if they discover a release of any of these materials, they are to make the proper notification only and then wait for further instructions. Edit the list of materials as needed.  Duplicate the slide if needed. If there are no such materials at your site, delete this slide. Radioactive Materials location 11 11

Special Hazardous Materials Inhalation Hazard location Spontaneously Combustible location Other location On the left side of this slide and the next one, list any hazardous materials present on-site that, if released in any amount, are too dangerous for any response actions by non-HAZWOPER trained personnel. Materials such as water reactives, strong oxidizers, inhalation hazards, liquid mercury and acute hazardous wastes may fall into this category. On the right side of this slide, you may enter the locations of each of these materials at the facility or insert photos or graphics of these hazardous materials. Employees should be instructed that if they discover a release of any of these materials, they are to make the proper notification only and then wait for further instructions. Add any photos or graphics (such as a facility map) showing the kits/lockers. Use the next slide also if your list is too long. On this slide and subsequent slides, you may want to replace the names of the spills kits from "kit #1", "kit #2", etc. to more descriptive names such as ‘Spill Kit by the South Loading Dock’.

Additional Training Hazard Communication (HazCom) Hazardous Waste contact Hazardous Waste (RCRA ) Emergency Actions Employees who are expected to respond to non-emergency hazmat spills require training in addition to that provided by this training program. Some employees that are expected to respond to hazmat releases may feel that they need additional training. Use this slide to direct them on obtaining this training. You may add or change the list of likely additional training courses needed on the left side. For each topic, identify whom they should contact for additional training. Delete this slide if not needed.

Waste Disposal Procedures: containerization labeling storage/accumulation other Enter the procedures for disposing of wastes from non-emergency hazmat spill response actions. It may be as simple as instructing employees to contact the Emergency Coordinator or EHS specialist who will take over. If you want employees to handle waste disposal, provide guidance on how they should proceed with labeling, containerization, storage/accumulation and disposal options. Make sure that hazardous wastes are identified and handled appropriately. Insert photos or graphics on the right side, if available.

Re-Stocking and Decontamination additional supplies tool replacement Decontamination decon kits? disposal? Enter a description of spill response supply re-stocking procedures. Which supplies are likely to need re-stocking (absorbents, caution tape, etc.)? Where to find additional supplies? Where to find replacements for worn or lost tools? Also enter how tools and equipment used in hazmat spill responses are to be decontaminated. If there are decon kits or equipment available, indicate where they are located and how they should be used. If employees should simply notify the Emergency Coordinator or EHS specialist for re-stocking and/or decon, make this clear.
