Lowering the voting age… Teenagers are the ones who will have to live longer with the consequences of a new government… Write a plan – 5 mins Young people in our area don’t have a lot of opportunities, so including them in politics would help to solve this… Lowering the voting age… You COULD argue that 16 year olds aren’t responsible enough, but there are some irresponsible 20 year olds who are allowed to vote! Letting young people vote would make them have an interest in the country and take pride in their government… PALL

Point: 16 year olds should be allowed to vote in general elections. A Fact or Statistic: 72% of 16 year olds surveyed said that they would vote if they had the right to do so. Say Something: This is a higher percentage than the number of adult voters who come out for elections, so it shows that 16 year olds would be engaged in the process and take it seriously. Anecdote: I am 16, and I find it insulting that people think we can’t make our own decisions! Technique: Unfair, unjust and unreasonable! A Solution: change the voting age and do democracy a favour!

Say Something: This shows that I am a diligent person with a proven track record in the work place. Anecdote: When I worked in the shop, I once had to tend to an old lady who became ill. I called an ambulance and tended to her, keeping her calm and safe. Afterwards, she contacted my manager to thank me. Technique: Would you value an employee who is trustworthy, keen and creative? A Solution: Give me a summer job and let me show you what I can do!
