Don Mitchell, P.E., dmitchel@fnal.gov REGIONAL USERS GROUP MEETING Creating and Managing Engineering Documents within Teamcenter 20 OCT 2016 3:15 – 3:55 PRESENTER CHALLENGE: PLM World challenges you to create image-rich and text-lite slide decks to help increase attendee learning and their presentation skills. Any use of text should have a font size of 40 points or greater for ease of reading. Less text is more. This is especially true with scientific and technical presentations! Image selection is an art and is most effective when presenters are able to incorporate striking, unusual or novel images. Images that support metaphors and analogies can also be highly effective. Graphs and charts should be used sparingly. Emphasize that it’s not about the numbers, but what the numbers mean. Take a look at Haiku Deck, Zuru or Canva. You can find royalty free, high quality images from Flickr Creative Commons. Image rich presentations improve attendee learning and session value. General Creation of a Document Create a generic Engineering Document in Teamcenter Import a WORD dataset into the ItemRevision REGIONAL USERS GROUP MEETING
From within Teamcenter, select a folder and then… File New Item In this example, an engineering procedure to calibrate strain gages will be created.
Walk through the steps of creating a New Item Walk through the steps of creating a New Item. This is very similar to the creation of a Design Item, Common Item, Manufacturing Item, and Engineering Note Item.
Click the Assign button to create a new item number and revision.
Click on the Category drop-down list.
Select a category for the document you are creating.
For legacy documents, the old document number and original author can be noted.
Choose the appropriate Division/Sector/Group. If this is a revision, type in the revision author’s name.
The Engineering Document has been successfully created. In this example, a WORD document needs to be added as a dataset to the ItemRevision. File New Dataset
Add a WORD dataset.
In this example, an available WORD document is imported into the dataset.
The dataset has been added to the ItemRevision The dataset has been added to the ItemRevision. With just a double-click on the dataset, the file can be opened and edited as needed.
