executive editor of The Washington Post from 1968 to 1991 executive editor of The Washington Post from 1968 to 1991. He became a national figure during the presidency of Richard Nixon, when he challenged the federal government over the right to publish the Pentagon Papers and oversaw the publication of Bob Woodward's and Carl Bernstein's stories documenting the Watergate scandal. At his death he held the title of vice president at-large of the Post. He was also an advocate for education and the study of history, including working for years as an active trustee on the boards of several major educational, historical, and archeological research institutions

After keeping secret for 30 years his involvement with reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, Felt admitted on May 31, 2005, to being the Watergate scandal's whistleblower, "Deep Throat".

Leslie Stahl After a stint in the news department of a Boston television station, Stahl was hired by CBS and relocated to Washington, where she cut her teeth as a national reporter covering the Watergate break-in and its aftermath. Stahl proved tenacious in her pursuit of the facts. "Lesley had the reputation of scratching your eyes out to get to a phone booth and get her story in first," a friend would later recall. Stahl's prominence grew after she covered the Watergate affair. She went on to become White House correspondent during the presidencies of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.
