Unit 6, Lesson 1: Butterfly fly Objectives Learning outcomes Vocabulary and structure Required materials Educational: - To learn to say, read and write about some insects; Developing: - To enable pupils to say, read and write about some insects, To enable pupils to write questions and answers about insects Socio-cultural: - To raise awareness of insects At the end of the lesson pupils will be able to: Name some of the insects; - sing a song about butterfly. - insect - butterfly - ladybird - mosquito - ant Pupil’s book, Workbook, The DVD, Flashcards: Butterfly, Grasshopper Ladybird Mosquito Ant Unit 6, Lesson 1: Butterfly fly

Steps and procedure of the lesson Activity Aims Time Step1 Warming up A ball game: Pupils make a big circle and they throw the ball to each other by asking question: - good morning, how are you today? Another pupil who catches the ball answers that question: Thanks well, what about you? - what is the weather like today? Do you like this weather? … To enable pupils to greet with one another freely: To enable pupils to speak; To enable pupils pronounce the words correctly and create friendly atmosphere in the class 5 minutes

Steps Activity Aims Time Step3 Litsten and repeat Practicing Play the DVD. Ask the pupils to listen to the song and say what the song is about (answer: Butterfly). Ask what the “butterfly” is in mother tongue. Play the DVD again and ask the pupils to sing together with the DVD Litsten and repeat Fly, fly fly the butterfly, In the meadow is flying high In the garden is flying low Fly, fly, fly the butterfly. (The couplet about is repeated four times) Warm up 5minutes

Steps Activity Aims Time Step4 Presenting 5minutes Look and say e.g. Invite all the pupils to the classroom window and ask Yes/No Questions about the day’s weather which require negative answers. After a few such questions, ask: “What’s the weather?” to which the pupils give the right answer about that day as shown in the example below Look and say e.g. Teacher: Is it rainy? Pupils: No, it isn’t. Teacher: Is it sunny? Pupils: No it isn’t. Teacher: What’s the weather? Pupils: It’s cloudy. To revise the topic of weather; To raise awareness of the day’s weather. 5minutes

Then ask them to look at the second picture and and the word “mosquito”. Elicit what the translation can be in mother tongue. Then do the same with the other two pictures and the word “insect”. After the pupils get the meaning, you can ask them to repeat the word after you or the DVD in chorus, rows and individually Look listen and repeat To introduce the new vocabulary 5minutes

Steps Activity Aims Time Step7 Activity4 Production Divide the class into two teams. Stick the flashcards with the insect in 3a on the board. Say a word, the pupils run and slam the card. They repeat what you said to gain a point for their team. Play “Fly Swat” To consolidate newly introduced vocabulary 5minutes

Steps Activity Aims Time Step8 Activity 5a Colour and watch Teacher prepares beforehand two model butterflies enough for each pupil in the class. Give the model butterflies to the pupils. The pupils colour their butterflies: Lucy in one colour and the Lee in another.While teacher saks “Where’s Lucy?” the pupils show. Colour and watch To have fun.
