Pilot Southeast Conservation Planning Atlas (CPA) Advanced Applications Team Call
Agenda Review of the Southeast CPA Where we are now: Pilot Project Familiarize ourselves with Data Basin Next Steps
Introduction to the SE CPA Goals Web-based platform Allows casual GIS users to find, visualize, and process basic geospatial data in support of conservation planning and delivery. Serves data in a consistent manner and allows end-users to easily discover, access, and integrate existing data and tools. Relies on both web services to expose data/tools that are maintained by remote providers and local storage for serving data/tools maintained “on-site”. Users Primarily the casual GIS user – (manager, biologist, etc) Power users are also expected to use the CPA, though they are not the targeted audience
Introduction to the SE CPA Benefits Central Location of data Ability to find previously unknown data Increase connectivity even without direct coordination Users will be conducting planning, analyses, and evaluations from common datasets Users with out desktop GIS will have basic GIS functionality Conduct simple overlays and develop maps
SE CPA Pilot Project Where we are now Pilot project hierarchy (gateways/nodes) Southeast gateway focused on entire SE with relevant spatial data that spans the entire region South Atlantic gateway contains relevant spatial data that is either region wide or specific to the SA Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks gateway contains relevant spatial data that is either region wide or specific to the GCPO
SE CPA Pilot Project Teams Overview Coordination team Coordinate overlap between two teams User experience team Focus on the look and feel of the CPA Making the CPA intuitive for non technical users Members are from user group and/or have experience improving user experience Advanced Applications Focus on functionality of the CPA Improving analytical tools and technical aspects Members have GIS and/or technical experience
SE CPA Pilot Project Advanced Application Team Review design mock up of gateways Prioritize tasks for Data Basin Choose datasets available in gateways and how those datasets will be represented Focused on technical solutions How the data will be assessed Type of analysis can be done with the data Provide insight/guidance on technical aspects of gateways
Functionality already in DB Buffer – select 1 or multiple features and buffer in km increments Project impact calculator? Filter dataset by column data Make layers transparent Can change border and fill color Create classifications of shapefiles Select by attributes of shapefiles Intersect Will highlight features of shapefile that intersect your selected feature in another shapefile Can export to shapefile or drawing
What datasets do you want What do you want to do with the datasets Do you see land mangers using this tool How do you see land managers in your organization using this tool What requests to do you get Do have lots of data that need to be stored Basic skill level of folks in your organization Do you have your own geospatial data Do you curate lots of data
