Explain the historical reasons for the establishment of the modern State of Israel in 1948; include the Jewish religious connection to the land, the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, and Zionism in Europe. SS7H2B

What are we learning? Why is this important? Why the state of Israel was established in 1948? What are the Jewish religious connections to the land of Israel, the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, and Zionism in Europe? Why is this important? To give you a better understanding of the Jewish religion and the misfortunes Jewish people have faces in this world.

Where did Israel come from? Palestine Balfour Declaration - statement issued by the British government in 1917 in favor of a Jewish state located in Palestine Why Palestine? Important because of religious reasons. This is where much of what is written in the Old Testament, New Testament, and Quran took place.

How was Israel Established? On May 14, 1948 the British Mandate over Palestine expired and Israel declared it’s independence. War broke out against Jewish Israel and Arab Palestine people but Israel won.

Why was Israel created? Connection to the land Anti-Semitism – discrimination and prejudice against Jews because the practice the Jewish faith. Zionism – a movement to re-establish the Jewish nation. Holocaust – systematic killing of millions of Jews, gypsies, mentally ill, etc. January 30, 1933 – May 8, 1945
