S- Warning signs Warning Signs Asthma Diary Coughing or Wheezing Shortness of breath Chest tightness Having to stop playing or exercising because of trouble breathing Needing to use our blue puffer often Asthma Diary

T-TRIGGERS Normal breathing Asthma breathing

H-HELP We need our parents’ and teachers’ help and understanding so that we can manage our asthma well.   We need to be able to get our medication quickly if we need it. Communication is the key! We can do anything if our asthma is under control.

M-MEDICATION 2 Main types for Asthma Controllers/Preventers helps with the swelling and mucous, works slow but prevents asthma episodes. (Orange, Purple, Red) Relievers/Emergency helps to relax the muscles, works fast but doesn’t last long. (Blue, Green)

A-ACTION PLAN Warning Signs What to Do Green Light I feel Good! I am not coughing! I sleep well! I have lots of energy! Green Zone Take my regular controller/ preventer Carry my blue reliever Exercise /play everyday Yellow Light I am coughing/wheezing I use my reliever 3 or more times I don’t feel good! Yellow Zone Follow my action plan Use my controller Get lots of rest Go get help! Red Light I am breathing fast I have trouble walking/ talking I am coughing lots Red Zone Asthma is dangerous!!! Take my reliever! Go Get Help from an adult or call Emergency!
