Page 17 in Online Packet TAXES WERE NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE LARGE ROMAN ARMY. THE HIGH TAXES TURNED PEOPLE AGAINST ROME AND LOST THEIR PATRIOTISM. EMPIRE SPLIT INTO EASTERN AND WESTERN. MONEY WAS ALSO NEEDED FOR PUBLIC GAMES AND THE POOR. PEOPLE FOUGHT OVER WHO WOULD BE THE NEW LEADER.

Final Days Read page 303 EASTERN HALF OF ROME WAS GAINING STRENGTH AND NOT TOO MUCH IN THE WESTERN PART. A GERMAN TRIBE CALLED THE VISIGOTHS ATTACKED. IN 455, THE VANDALS CAPTURED ROME AND PILLAGED THE CITY.

INSTEAD OF KILLING ROMULUS WAS SPARED BECAUSE HE WAS TOO YOUNG. AS ROME DECLINED, THE BYZANTINE EMPIRE BECAME MORE POWERFUL. WHEN ROME FELL, CONSTANTINOPLE BECAME THE CENTER OF ROMAN POWER.
