3 Kinds of Heat Transfer
Three Kinds of Heat Transfer 1. Conduction- transfer of heat through a material by direct contact. (particle to particle) Ex. Melting the ice by warming it with your hands Ex. You touching a hot stove
To stop conduction, use the worst conductor which is air or a vacuum. Heat transfers through a solid easily and gases the slowest. Ex. Puffy clothing Ex. House insulation
Insulation Insulations are materials that stop heat transfer. A good insulator stops all 3 types of heat transfer.
Winter animal adaptions How do animals stay warm? How animals stay warm
Convection Convection- transfer of heat in a fluid (gas or liquid) due to a difference in densities. Hot fluids are lighter and rise. Cold fluids are more dense and sink. http://www.absorblearning.com/media/attachment.action?quick=t1&att=2080 Click on animation twice
To stop convection, put a lid on it!
