YOU ARE SO COOL!! .. CONSTI

Tale of the Spanish Constitution

ONCE UPON A TIME, IN A TOWN, WHERE ITS PEOPLE SPENT ALL THE DAY FIGHTING.

NO ONE RESPECTED THE THINGS OF THEIR NEIGHBORS, EVERYBODY DID WHAT THEY WANTED, NEVERMIND WHO COULD DISTURB. BECAUSE THEY DIDN´T HAVE A LAW, THEY DIDN´T AGREE ON ANYTHING THEY DID.

ONE DAY THEY REALIZED THAT THEY COULDN´T CONTINUE LIVING LIKE THAT, BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT HAPPY. THEN, EVERYBODY MET FOR TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AND THEY DECIDED TO DRAW UP A CONSTITUTION AMONG ALL AND FOR ALL.

BUT… WHO WAS GOING TO DRAW UP THIS CONSTITUTION BUT… WHO WAS GOING TO DRAW UP THIS CONSTITUTION? A GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS OFFERED TO CREATE THE CONSTITUTION, BUT AS MANY WERE DID NOT AGREE ON WHO WOULD BE THE BEST PEOPLE TO DO IT, THE PEOPLE CHOSE THOSE WHO COULD DO IT BETTER. THE PEOPLE THAT WERE ELECTED FORMED THE PARLIAMENT AND ALWAYS GATHERED IN THIS BUILDING.

THE PARLIAMENT AFTER A PERIOD OF MEETINGS, THESE MEN CREATED THE CONSTITUTION.

IN THIS BOOK YOU WILL LEARN HOW THE COUNTRY WOULD BE CALLED, WHAT LANGUAGE AND WHAT FLAG THEY WOULD HAVE. IT WOULD ALSO EXPLAIN THE RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF THE NEIGHBORS. BUT… WOULD EVERYONE LIKE THIS CONSTITUTION?

AN ELECTION WAS HELD THAT ASKED NEIGHBORS IF THEY LIKED THE CONSTITUTION, AND THEY HAD TO ANSWER IF THEY DID OR IF THEY DID NOT.

THE ELECTION WAS THE 6TH OF DECEMBER 1978 AND MOST OF THE NEIGHBORS SAID YES. FROM THAT DAY, ALL LIVED BETTER, SAFER AND HAPPIER.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BOYS AND GIRLS before and after the Constitution of 1978

At school: In our school, girls and boys have the same rights and duties, no one is over the other. We all have the same preference for answering a question or making one. In the past, girls couldn´t go to school, boys were the only persons that could go to school. But nowadays, it´s different.

During the first years the girls attended school, they were separated from boys in different classrooms. They also learnt some different subjects: for example, girls learnt how to sew, cook and crafts related to being a good housewife whereas boys learnt more technical subjects aimed at acquiring skills at a variety of jobs.

Today, both girls and boys learn the same subjects and the Spanish Constitution establishes that education must aim at developing the personality of every citizen. Now ,compulsory education is free and equal for every Spanish citizen (aged 3 to 16)

In the house: In the house we have also the same duties and the same rights. Both, men and women, can do all chores in the house, like cleaning, cooking or taking care of children. In the past, women had to be in the house for household and childbearing. And the men were the only ones that worked outside the home and made a living.

At work: Today both men and women work in and outside the home, and both can have a job. There are not so many prejudices regarding the types of jobs they do, both at home and at work. Women today can do the same jobs as men. In the past, only men could work, women couldn´t work or go to school, and depended economically on their husbands.

Every Spanish citizen has the right to have a job and choose the job they like, as well as have a salary high enough as to provide for their basic needs and those of their families. For no reason should a woman or a man have a different wage or salary on account of their gender.

Thanks Constitution!! Now we are all the same!!
