Jesus Changes Water to Wine John 2:1-11, Key Verse 2:11 Marriage is God’s blessing “My time has not yet come” Mary’s prayer Servants’ obedience “He thus revealed his glory”

1. Marriage Is God’s Blessing Marriage is God’s expression of utmost blessing for mankind. Each person must know that marriage was established by God, and was ordained and sanctified by God. To be happy, each family must accept and worship Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord of the family.

2. “My Time Has Not Yet Come” Jesus was living and acting on God’s time schedule. The hour refers to the time of his glorification, when he would receive his true place and position, not as an earthly king, but as the Messiah, God’s Son, Savior of mankind, seated at God’s right hand. This glorification would occur after his death and resurrection, for it would be only through death and resurrection that Jesus could accomplish what he came to earth to accomplish—to offer salvation to all people.

3. Mary’s Prayer “They have no more wine.”(3) We must come to Jesus and tell our problems to Jesus in prayer. This was the first step of her prayer. “Woman, why do you involve me?”(4). She was not upset….This was the second step of her prayer. We call this “the faith of waiting on the Lord.” “Do whatever he tells you” (5). She helped the servants to have obedient hearts toward Jesus’ words. This was the third step of her prayer.

4. Servants’ Obedience “‘Fill the jars with water’; so they filled them to the brim.” (7) They obeyed, not 70%, not 90%, not even 99%, but 100%. “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”(8) Jesus’ command sounded very ridiculous. But they again simply obeyed. Then what happened? When they obeyed, a miracle happened. Jesus changed the water into first-class wine!

5. “He Thus Revealed His Glory” After his death and resurrection, Jesus would be fully glorified—and all people would know that he is the Son of God. But until that time, Jesus would reveal his identity by miracles—even though he would have preferred for people to believe in him because of his words (20:29). Transforming the water into wine revealed his glory by showing his tremendous power. This small display of divine nature was enough to convince the disciples of his identity and initiate their trust in him.

Conclusion Jesus came to this world to bless all mankind, just as he blessed the wedding at Cana in Galilee. Jesus came to this world to change useless people into useful people. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Co 5:17) Are you transformed into a new creation?
