With the Right Support It’s Full STEM Ahead

What is STEMscope? STEMscopes is a comprehensive, online prek-12, hands-on science curriculem that puts teacher support at its center.

STEMscope Developed by Teachers Interactive and Hands-on Aligned to the Toughest Standards Works in Traditional, Blended, and 1:1 Classrooms

STEMscope is apart of

Accelerate Learning Accelerate Learning, in conjunction with Rice University, has created the most widely used PreK-12 science curriculum in Texas, STEMscopes — and it’s now available nationally. It’s the teachers favorite science program and now serves more than 1.4M students.

The Technology Vision of Cherokee County Schools “The Cherokee County School District adheres to the belief that technology should play a vital role in meeting the needs of the broad range of abilities, disabilities, cultural backgrounds and ethnic populations represented in our district schools and communities.” “The primary goal of K-12 technology is to improve student learning. All students will have opportunities to utilize educationally significant technologies for participation in the global society and economy of the twenty-first century.” http://portal.cherokee.k12.ga.us/departments/technology/Documents/StateTechPlan-2011-2014.pdf

The Technology Vision of Cherokee County Schools is supported by STEMscopes STEMscopes supports our district’s use of technology because it allows students to access an engaged learning experience at any time or any place. One-on-one classroom coaching opportunity for teachers with the objective to make every teacher a STEM expert. Witch is important to support or STEM schools. Also coaches help teachers critically reflect on their strengths and weaknesses to ensure growth in each teacher.

The Target Population Cherokee County has over 38,774 students, with 31.03% on free/reduced lunch. Many of these students do not have access to internet services I propose that using this tool mainly within the schools will maximize the benefits of STEMscopes There is many at home aspects to this program that can be printed for the families that do not have internet access.

Objective of STEMscope STEMscopes are focused on becoming the pre-eminent and most effective digital K-12 STEM resource used by teachers, students, and parents as measured by adoption and usage by schools, districts, and families.

The Stem of STEMscopes STEMscope distinguishes itself from textbook companies by providing an immersive science curriculum that embraces learning by doing – just like a science classroom. As a result, students score higher using STEMscope thanks to custom-tailored lesson that can be easily differentiated for all learning styles.

The Stem of STEMscopes 100% digital Access and flexability is key for any science program. STEMscopes is 100% online, accessible 27/7, with up to 35 resources per standard to teach in any classroom setting from a traditional to blended to 1:1 classrooms.

The Stem of STEMscopes 100% digital cont’d STEMscopes access extends to the home, with parent and student online portal. Communication is done done in the parent portal also. Teachers are able to easily access professional development FAQ’s, videos and up-to-the minute robust analytics.

Adapts to Your Teaching Style Weather teaching one-to-one, whole group or small group, STEM scopes customizes to a teacher’s classroom scenario. Check out these flexible components that lets teachers customize their classroom.

Adapts to Your Teaching Style Kits Hands-s on inquiry STEMscopes Kits are separated by reporting category, NGSS or state standard, and activity to provide quick classroom setup Consumable Kits are the materials needed when a teacher teachers multiple classes. Basic Science Equipment Kits are the tools needed to teach science i.e. beakers, graduated cylinders, goggles.

Adapts to Your Teaching Style Printed and Digital Student Support Materials STEMscopedia: is student/parent primer rich in background knowledge and home connections. Explore Journal: a hands-on investigation journal that serves as a companion to the Explore labs Science Literacy: fusion of reading and writing exercises based around science standard

The Proof is in the Research The research team at Rice University Center for Digital Learning and Scholarship analyzed data collected from 345,000 students, across diverse populations, and found that students who use STEMscopes routinely outperformed other students using any other science curricula on the 5th – 8th grade State of Texas Assessment Academic Readiness.

STEMscopes Features Hands-on inquiry Problem based learning activities All teacher materials are free Free Spanish version Customizable formative and summative assessments. And the Assessment Generator Math, ELA and writing connections in each module

STEMscopes Features Cont’d Embedded intervention and Acceleration programs Supplemental print books Text-to-speech button in English and Spanish App Builder (easily build your own mobile device apps) Engineering and Career Connections Writing prompts E-books, content videos, and problem based learning

What to Expect from STEMscopes 100% teacher centric since it was developed by teachers and tested in classrooms Consistent instruction from grade-to-grade with Prek-12 vertically-aligned curriculum Students are thoroughly engaged with reading, writing, math, engineering, technology, art, and music Teachers have a snapshot of where students are using assessments Parents get involved through the Parent Portal Adaptable to various learning styles Aligned to state standards

Equiptmant Needed for STEMscopes Stemscopes is 100% online so ant devise that can be connected to the internet can be used to access STEMscopes

Cost of STEMscopes 100% teacher resources are free Student costs can be as low as $4.75 per student per year

Potental Funding Sources Cherokee County has a STEM budget that could be utilized STEMscopes replaces the traditional text book adoption so the funding for textbooks can be diverted Cherokee County schools have foundations and PTAs to raise money for technology

Limitations of STEMscopes If STEMscopes is utilized at home, each student is required to have access to an internet-accessible device. At school, the students will need to have access to an internet-accessible device.

Reflection I was introduced to STEMscopes at summer planning session with a group of 6th grade science teachers. I was impressed with all of the different options for teaching styles. I was able to surf the web site after getting the log in information with out any problems. The site is very streamline and goes along with the Georgia standard. I was able to print out assessments to go along with and improve the lessons that I have already created. My team was given a three month trial offer and I plan on testing out more of the features while running my classroom.
