Volunteer Conference 2016

Welcome & Introductions

Graham Hooper Chief Executive

Elizabeth Dymond Director of Finance and Corporate Services

Sarah Woods Director of Marketing and Audience Engagement

For the benefit of our lifelong community Why are we here ? For the benefit of our lifelong community

It’s our Vision “The Vision of the Charity for Civil Servants is a lifelong community; people offering effective support for each other when life takes a turn for the worse.”

Which is great, but to achieve it - we need to do some things differently

So why change?

People who need our support lie at the heart of our lifelong community

We exist to help them and everything we do should focus on that

our lifelong community More support for our lifelong community (over 1.5m people) We help only 1% of them

More support from our lifelong community

We’re changing so we can help more people who need our support right now

We’re changing so we can serve the needs of generations to come

And we’re changing for good

Staying the same is simply not an option

We need better engagement across the community

We need to develop services to grow our support and the help we can offer

We need to develop a sustainable financial model for the future

And we must work together - both Volunteers and the Charity’s staff to achieve our goals

Our strategic approach

Our strategic approach Engagement Service Evolution Sustainability Initial Pathfinder Groups HMRC DWP Development in Northern Ireland Research, Evaluation Analysis & Insight Strategic Partnerships Digital & Service Transformation

We’re making 6 important commitments

1. Provide at least twice as much help for people within 5 years, as we do today

2. Establish, understand and demonstrate the true value of our work

3. Champion best practice in everything we do

4. Continuously explore new services to meet changing needs

5. Create financial models to best serve the needs of generations to come

6. Help and support each other to deliver the change we need

My ambition for today is for us to enjoy exploring how we can......

…make things simpler, better and faster…

…deliver more help for more people…

…work brilliantly together - staff and volunteers…

…and, each play our part in.... For example….. If every volunteer in the room left here today and told 5 people back in their workplace or a former colleague about the charity, who hadn’t heard of us before – and explained about how we can support and help them. That would mean 300 new people would know about the charity this year. If 300 new people learnt about the charity every year, for the next 5 years….that’s 1500 people new people who’s lives we can help change over the next five years, thanks to you all. And that is just one part of the charity’s work.

changing the Charity for good.

Thank You
