Social Anxiety Model Triggering Situation Negative Automatic Thoughts, Activation of negative core beliefs: I’m unlikeable, I’m incompetent Overestimation of danger/threat Perceived inability to cope Anxiety Symptoms Anxious Thinking Self-consciousness, concern about what others think, fear of embarrassment, self-focus, misinterpretation of others Anxious Behaviors Safety behaviors: hide anxiety, stay calm, overcompensate, go with friend, be quiet, hide, leave early, alcohol, etc. Anxious Feelings Blushing, shaky voice, heart racing, palpitations, trembling, mind going blank, dry throat, tightness in chest, etc. Post-Event Rumination Avoidance
