Word Origins When you think about word origin, think about your own family history. Word origin is the point at which a word begins or from which it derives. Word Definitions 2a and 2b Doctor: A person, especially a physician, dentist, or veterinarian, trained in the healing arts and licensed to practice. 2. a. A person who has earned the highest academic degree awarded by a college or university in a specified discipline. b. Affixes Affixes are prefixes or suffixes that are attached to a root word in order to form a new word. Prefix: placed at the beginning of a word to modify or change its meaning. Ex.
