It’s a bright and hot day in The Gambia Good Morning! It’s a bright and hot day in The Gambia It’s Monday the 12th of March 2012 and it’s a very special day! Can you guess why? 

Commonwealth day is held on the second Monday of March each year. Did you guess? It’s Commonwealth day! Commonwealth day is held on the second Monday of March each year. The 54 Countries that make up the Commonwealth celebrate their links and friendship with each other.

Because The Gambia is part of the Commonwealth we are celebrating the day in style! 

Instead of going to class like we usually do everyone gets to dress up in their best clothes!

I have dressed up as an English Banker  Some of us even dress up in the traditional clothes of people in other Commonwealth country’s! I have dressed up as an English Banker 

The girls also got to plait their hair with shells and sweets! We think everyone looked really pretty! What do you think? 

It’s a lot nicer than the normal school food!  As a treat for commonwealth day we also get to bring a special lunch in from home It’s a lot nicer than the normal school food! 

Here is the lunch I bought in that my mum made for me. Rice and Fish Delicious! 

Lots of us share the food we brought in and feast in style! 

To mark the day we also made some flags of Commonwealth countries! We hope you recognise which country this flag belongs too! 

Can you guess which country this flag belongs to? We’ll give you a clue! 

Their traditional dress is a sari like this! Did you guess? It’s India! 

Finally we had a disco in the afternoon and played African music from different African countries! Everybody got to dance and we had lots of fun! 
