Quick Review Project Management is “the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities in order to meet project requirements. Project Managers strive to meet specific scope, time, cost and quality, and finally the expectations of the people involved in or affected by project activities. What is Certification? A series of steps Project Managers can take to insure quality service is provided in the Project Management industry. Certified Project Managers set the standard for the field as well as participate in studies that will help make the industry more efficient and effective.

C.A.P.M Certified Associate in Project Management Designed for Project Managers who provide P.M. services but are relatively new to the industry. Relies on the experienced P.M. for guidance, direction and approval. Great for recognition in the workplace. Shows fundamental P.M. knowledge and experience through the use of P.M. tools, techniques and methodologies. C.A.P.M. Category 1 Requirements Educational Background (Graduation degree). 1,500 hours P.M. experience within five P.M. project groups. 1,500 hours C.A.P.M. experience in at least two years that fall within the three years prior to application. 24 non-overlapping months of P.M. experience. 23 contact hours of P.M. education including content on quality, time, cost, human resources, communications, risk, procurement and integration management. Category 2 Holds High School diploma or the equivalent. Minimum of 2,500 of P.M. experience within 5 P.M. groups. 24 unique months of P.M. experience. 23 contact hours of P.M. education.

C.A.P.M. C.A.P.M The CAPM certification offers recognition to professionals who are starting a career in project management as well as project team members who wish to demonstrate their project management knowledge.

C.A.P.M - Tasks Assists in evaluation of project control plans. Suggesting performance indicators. Assists with refining project requirements, assumptions, and constraints. Supporting administrative and financial functions.

Preparing for the Exam Focus on the triple constraint of Project Management: Scope, time, and cost. Passing the exam requires you to answer at least 68.5 questions correctly and your score is not displayed on your certificate.

During the Exam… You have 4.5 hours to answer 200 multiple choice questions with 4 alternative answers. If you are unsure if you need to change an answer, mark it and come back to it later. There are no trick questions. Eliminate obviously wrong answers. Memorize the earned value formulas and bring a non-programmable calculator. You will receive a couple of blank pieces of paper before the test. Jot down important equations before you start. Read all questions carefully – making sure to answer all questions in a scenario. Be wary of alternatives that use words like always, never, only, must, and completely. After about 2 hours, take a short break.

PMI’s credentials reflect different roles, and therefore, different audiences. Program managers build credibility, establish rapport and maintain communication with stakeholders at multiple levels, including those external to the organization.

Program managers are responsible for determining and coordinating the sharing of resources among their constituent projects to the overall benefit of the program.
