God’s Word Is Truth January 8

What do you think? How have you seen standards change over your lifetime? All kinds of things change – but God’s Word remains the same We can fully rely on what the Bible teaches. As we conclude our study of Psalm 119, we know with certainty that we can rely on the Truth of God’s Word

Listen for the psalmist’s requests. Psalm 119:153-155 (NIV) Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law. 154 Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise. 155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees.

God’s Saving Word So, what requests does the psalmist make? What do these verses teach us about the psalmist’s relationship with God? How does God’s Word help us in times of distress?

God’s Saving Word When can God’s Word redeemed a difficult season in your life? For what kinds of situations will Scripture speak to us in a special way? What did the psalmist have to say about salvation? For believers who have salvation, how can you communicate God’s love to people who are going through some of those situations we listed above?

Listen for more requests. Psalm 119:156-159 (NIV) Your compassion is great, O LORD; preserve my life according to your laws. 157 Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes. 158 I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word. 159 See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your love.

God’s Loving Word What terms does the author use to describe his enemies? What did the psalmist do differently than these enemies did? What does the psalmist pray for/about in these verses?

God’s Loving Word Note Ex 34:6-7 Then the Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed: Yahweh—Yahweh is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth, 7 maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving wrongdoing, rebellion, and sin. But He will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ wrongdoing on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.

God’s Loving Word How do these verses (Ex 34:6-7) speak to God’s compassion? How might we be overwhelmed by the love and mercy described in Psalm 119:156?

God’s Loving Word What makes it hard for some to accept the reality of God’s love? What does the psalmist pray for/about? How will believing God hears and sees affect the way we pray?

Listen for a description of God’s Word Psalm 119:160 (NIV) All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.

God’s True and Enduring Word What facts does the author have to say about God’s Word? Definition of “Truth” : that with aligns with reality – it is a statement about the way the world actually is. What is the difference between saying Scripture contains truth versus saying Scripture is entirely and totally true? “Contains” Truth Is Entirely, Totally True
