Knowing God’s Word Last week we looked at the book of Galatians, a letter Paul wrote to Galatia to combat Judaizing teachers This week we move onto the book of Ephesians Ephesians is the 10th book in the NT and is the 5th of the Pauline Epistles (Romans through Philemon)

Knowing God’s Word Paul is the author of the book of Galatians (1:1; 3:1) Paul wrote this letter as one of his four “Prison Epistles” when he was imprisoned in Rome This would place it at a later date, putting it at around 61-63 AD

Knowing God’s Word Ephesus was the capital of the Roman province in Asia It was famous for it’s trade, art and science, but most famous for the temple of Diana (Artemis) It was known as one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World

Knowing God’s Word The book of Acts reveals some information surrounding Paul’s visits to Ephesus His first visit happened on his 2nd missionary journey (Acts 18:18-19) He did not stay long on his first visit, but vowed to come back again

Knowing God’s Word Paul returned on his 3rd missionary journey and stayed for about 3 years (Acts 19; 20:31) The letter seems to be written more to all the churches in that region than to one particular church It was not written to address specific problems in a church

Knowing God’s Word Also, no specific greetings are mentioned in the letter The letter was written to remind them of the great blessings of the Christian as well as the duties they had to continue a walk in Christ The letter is divided into 2 parts: the blessings (1-3) and the duties (4-6)
