Using Exam Accommodations

Overall Information It is your choice to use your exam and other accommodations. This means that you don’t have to use your accommodation for each exam/quiz You choose how often or how little you use your accommodations

Overall Information Talk to your professors one week before each exam or quiz It’s your responsibility to self-advocate and remind your professors about your accommodation Remember that your professors teach several classes and have many other students

Overall Information The Academic Learning Center is Albright’s alternative testing site You don’t have to take your exams there. If you prefer to take your exams in the classroom, talk to your professor and the Disability Services office Be mindful that you can’t request retroactive accommodations -This means that if you didn’t request extra time and you receive a bad grade, you can’t re-take the exam with extra time

Why Should You Use Extra Time? It can help! If you request extra time for your exam and you choose not use all of it, turn in your exam when you finish and continue on with your day. Taking your exam with extra time will ensure that you have time to use your compensatory strategies. Such as: Re-read questions Close your eyes for 60 seconds Write an outline for your essay

How Do I Request Extra Time? Speak to your professor at least ONE week before the exam Discuss the following: Where you will take the exam? In the Academic Learning Center (ALC), classroom, professor’s office, etc Will you use extra time? If not, Its OKAY! What materials will be allowed for the exam? Calculator, Periodic table Is the exam multiple choice, essay, in an oral format? What material will be covered? Is the study guide you created accurate? (Show professor your study guide) For exams in the ALC, fill out the testing form

Step 1 (For Exams in ALC) Pick up a Testing Accommodation Form Aaron! One of the Student Workers! Pick up a Testing Accommodation Form The disability services office is located in the administration building, between the writing center and the president’s office.

Step 2 (For ALC Exams) Fill in the student portion at the top of the page Check off your approved accommodation(s) Please note that you will only receive the approved accommodations that you check off on the form. If you don’t check off the approved accommodation, the ALC (Academic Learning Center) will assume that you don’t want to use your approved accommodation. SIGN THE FORM!

Step 3 (ALC Exams) Meet with your professor and ask her/him to complete the instructor portion Make sure your professor checks off any materials that you are allowed for the exam, such as the periodic table of elements

Step 4 (ALC Exams) Return the form to the ALC at least five (5) full business days before the exam For Example: If you want to take an exam on Friday, you need to give the ALC the form by the preceding Friday. This is why we say one week before.
