CONTEXT Year 8 Food Technology class Previously spent 2 or 3 lessons on savoury food. In this lesson, the class will start to explore sweet foods and understand it’s nutritional value.

TASTE TEST REMEMBER to wash your hands, tie back long hair and put on an apron!!! INSTRUCTIONS Taste your food. Follow the tasks on your worksheet and fill in the table – you have FOUR minutes! If you have finished filling in the table for sample 1, move on to sample 2.

TASTE TEST Follow up questions: Name an ingredient each What’s the texture like? What does it smell like?

WHAT DO THEY GET OUT OF IT? An awareness of taste, texture and the smell of food – Using all senses to engage students. Identify ingredients – widen their palette and become familiar with flavours. An understanding of portion control and nutrition. Optional: Students can ask for banana bread or flapjack recipe at the end of the lesson – avoiding distraction/fixation.

THOUGHTS Too excitable? Can be interchanged with different types of food, e.g. fruits, savoury food. May have to consider food allergies, religious reasons for not eating certain foods, fasting, etc… Inclusion!
