International Program – Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management Guillaume Perilleux Academic Coordinator – Economics Matthieu Gilson Academic Coordinator – Management

Who we are Academic coordinators Role Economics: Guillaume Perilleux gperille@ulb.ac.be Management: Matthieu Gilson matgilso@ulb.ac.be Role Advise incoming students on their course program at the SBS-EM Ask questions by email or during the office hours Validate the “Registration Form” and the “Learning Agreement” (only for Erasmus Students). 2 | International Program – Welcome Presentation

Your job You all have made a course selection before your arrival At least 1 course, 30 ECTS maximum, 60% in the SBS-EM catalogue If you are fine with this selection: Just live your life This will be your definitive course program during this term Come to one the office hours (next slide) to sign your a printed version of your registration form (printed by us) and, if you are an Erasmus student, give us your learning agreement If you want to modify this selection: Come to one of the office hours as soon as possible Modifications are allowed only if they are justified You still have to sign your registration form and hand in your learning agreement In any case, courses start next week, it is crucial to attend the first session of your courses

Visiting Hours: when From 12:00 to 13:00: Wednesday 20/09 and Friday 22/09 From 12:00 to 14:00: Tuesday 26/09, Friday 29/09 Tuesday 03/10 and Friday 05/10 Friday 05/10 = Deadline for signing your registration form and submitting your learning agreement! Schedule is also on the website: http://www.ulb.ac.be/facs/sbsem/exchangestudents/coursesinformation/coordinators.html

Visiting Hours: where Room: AW.1.117 (next to Anne Georges’ office) 5 | International Program – Welcome Presentation

Modifying your current course program Only if you have a good case for it. Example: The course is cancelled… (e.g. International Business Strategy) You have a significant schedule overlap It is required by your home coordinator We need a proof (email, …) 6 | International Program – Welcome Presentation

The learning agreement Only for students from an EU country You should have submitted a preliminary version before your arrival here. If you have made any change to this version, you need to fill in the part called ‘During the mobility’ 7 | International Program – Welcome Presentation

Latest updates International business strategy  2nd Term Environmental economics  cancelled

A few words on the courses Professors enjoy a large freedom regarding the organization of their courses: Different type of classes/activities Theoretical classes, exercise sessions, seminars,… Visible on Gehol (blue = theoretical, green = exercises) Different type of assessments: Exams (written or oral), assignments, group projects, presentations Different policies: Attendance, participation, etc. Everything is explained during the first session of each course. 9 | International Program – Welcome Presentation

Do’s and Don’ts Typical mistakes from exchange students: Missing first classes Be sure to know when your courses start and be there. It is a moment where important information are communicated. Not knowing the “rules” of their courses (attendance, exams, tests, group projects,…) Be sure to know what is expected of you Travelling too much…  Missing administrative deadlines, tests, etc. because you are on holidays is never an excuse. Check the schedule of the first term to know when you have free time.

Do’s and Don’ts Not talking enough with local students They sometimes have inside information Waiting the last day to submit their learning agreement. Come as soon as your documents and your course program is finalized in order to avoid queues. Waiting too much to get in touch with their home university to get courses approved Be sure that your home university will give you a answer before the deadline Underestimate the amount of work that final exams require

Course schedule Go to Gehol  http://gehol.ulb.ac.be/gehol/ Schedule/classrooms might change  always check Gehol before attending a course (especially the first class) Classroom  ex.: S.R42.5.503  Campus(Solbosch).Building(R42).Level(Fifth level).Room (503) 12 | International Program – Welcome Presentation
