THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE… DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE… Ashland High School is committed to providing educational opportunities to tackle this problem together as a community!

DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT “Too many students are impacted by drug and alcohol use at Ashland High School. We believe that information is power. We want parents and students to be as informed as possible so that we can work together to support our young people in making healthy choices.” – Erika Bare, Principal, Ashland High School

DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT PRESENTER BIO: LIBBY EDSON, YOMIND "I am a mother, a wife, a yoga teacher, a jewelry designer, a coach, a volunteer, and a community organizer...  I love to learn and am always looking for ways to improve myself and my relationships.  I have been practicing and teaching yoga for over twenty years and have have been inspired by many great teachers and ideas.”

DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT “We need to stop talking about drug abuse as simply a bad habit, and instead start discussing how to treat and prevent addiction as an illness.” The Myth of the Drug-Habit: Defining Addiction as a Disease. – Bryan F. Singer

DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT PRESENTER BIO: Dr. JIM SHAMES Medical Director for Jackson County Health and Human Services. He is also board certified in Family Practice and Addiction Medicine. Prior to that, he provided primary healthcare in Josephine and Jackson Counties.  He is in a leadership position with the Oregon Pain Guidance collaborative, which seeks to reduce inappropriate opioid prescribing.

DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT This increase in anxiety and stress is happening in kids everywhere – not just at Ivy League schools. As childhood and young childhood become more goal-oriented (for example: getting straight A’s) Getting into a top-tier university, being the president of several extracurricular clubs), kids are feeling more and more pressure to do just about anything to check items off their parent’s list -- How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success

DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT “1/10 twelfth graders said they have used a prescription drug for non-medical purposes in the last year.” Monitoring the Future Study: Trends in the Prevalence of Various Drugs 2015

DRUG AWARENESS EDUCATION NIGHT "The masks adults wear make it extremely hard for kids to trust us. Many people feel frustrated and unsupported in their lives, and it’s time to get real about that. As teachers, we need to create safe containers for our young people to express themselves, or they’ll likely default to the escape routes they see modeled in society." -- Abram Katz, ONTASC
