Calorimeter Status Electronics Installation and Commissioning Online Calibration Unpacking and Timing calibration First Energy Scale estimations

Calorimeter: Electronics Installation LAr & HV: all cryostats filled all HV (2kV) on all channels LAr purity (< 0.4 ppm O2 equiv) LAr temp. and purity monitored PreAmp & BLS: all PreAmps & PS (-1 -ICD) all Pulsers & PS installed all BLS PS + spares installed ~ 200 BLS boards still in production (~50/week) ICD 5 tiles installed on ECS-SW PMT box, HV + LV power, electronics pulser installed Cables run through winders pORC in work Calibration and characterization ongoing in cosmic ray test-stand Infrastructure almost all in place 10/12 quadrants ready for read-out CC commissioned at 1%, ECS started all Calorimeter equipped after April-shutdown

Calorimeter: Trigger & Read Out Trigger summers/drivers in CC-S complete CC-SE and 2/3 CC-SW installed overlap with instrumented region of SMT/CFT and ICD Trigger in CC completed by end of April Ordering parts (resistors) for EC’s fully installed trigger by summer ADC & Timing and Control: Run I ADC’s and modified ADC controllers working fine 12 T&C boards operational T&C controller prototype working: final board ~6 weeks FPGA code under development PIB prototype working, final board without functional modifications EPROM code finalized and to be burned

Calorimeter Online Calibration Online Calibration developments: Automatic validation and extraction tools needed for pedestals and zero suppression limits Implementation of automated ramps with pulsers for gain calibration Scheme for running calibrations still needs to be worked out (frequency, #events, #DAC/delay settings, corrections, etc.) data base tables for offline-database designed – might want to retrofit online (estimate 25 GB for 3 years) development of online/offline transfer and DB-Manager code for use of calibration constants in the offline reconstruction

Calorimeter Crate Unpacking To be added to ADC unpacking: Simultaneous read out of gain1/gain8 Unpacking of 3 consecutive crossings for timing calibration Timing & Control - Crate (0x4C) Contains all meta-data (L1 crossing, analog-cell read out, PIB information etc.) Existing unpacking from cal_elec to be generalized L1CAL - Crate (0x10) Structure similar to Run I but there are significant changes in particular for L3 readout

Calorimeter Timing Calibration Most crates timed between T&C and BLS crate controler timing of L1 trigger framework done FPGA modification of 1s necessary Fine timing calibration has to be done with collisions or beam-gas events special ReadOut mode of 3 consecutive BC (Tibor Kurca) fit in order to obtain timing for maximal response to be adjusted within one crate needs modification of FE unpacking

Sampling Weights sampling fractions and dead material corrections are combined in optimized sampling weights EM section optimized layer weights for the 4 EM layers calculated using electrons in plate geometry. weights calculated as a function of the tower ieta. HAD section weights for the fine hadronic sections calculated using single pions. weights for the EM layers are kept fixed relative to their electron values. coarse hadronic sections are being appropriately left out from the optimizations.

First energy scale estimation dynamic range of electronics adjusted to be the same as in Run I absolut energy scale known at ~ 10% level estimation of absolut scale using pulsers: (Pierre Petroff/Gisele Martin) measurement of charge injected into the preamps simulation necessary to compare charge injected by physics signal w.r.t. calibration signal needs modification of sampling weights into sampling fractions + dead material corrections estimated precision 5-10%

Outlook Calorimeter in rather good shape useful data from the CC within the next weeks em + jet triggers in CC after 2 weeks shutdown no useful tracks before September shutdown
