Agenda Background of the Course Implementation Evaluation Ongoing Development

Course Background Created as part of Enhancing Clinical Research Professionals Training and Qualifications (ECRPTQ) project (Shanley/ Barohn co-PIs). Arose out of the need for competency-based training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Although GCP training courses exist, they are primarily targeted for FDA-regulated trials The course was developed with representatives of several CTSA-funded institutions They participated in content development and refinement and worked with a production company (Torrance Learning)

Course Content 9 Training Modules: Introduction Research Protocol Recruitment and Retention Informed Consent Communication Privacy and Confidentiality Participant Safety and Adverse Events Quality Control and Assurance Research Misconduct Conclusion

Course Implementation Course became available on OBSSR website Download to institutional learning management systems (LMS) to host course Institutions encouraged to participate through notifications and advertisements Certification can be documented in LMS and printed for proof of GCP training This course is also hosted by the Society of Behavioral Medicine in which users can register to take the course at that website Disadvantage is we cannot track their outcomes

Course Dissemination In April 2017 a survey about hubs’ use of the course was administered through the Workforce Domain Task Force. Of the 29 hubs that participated in the survey, 71% had downloaded the course 46% had launched the training in February 2017 or earlier An estimated 6000+ faculty and staff have been invited take the course at the participating hubs.

SBR Course Evaluation Pilot Evaluation Study: 5 institutions – designed evaluation / sought IRB approval Learners invited to take a survey immediately after the course and then 2-3 months later Data collected from surveys and from LMS Ongoing study to be completed Summer 2017

Preliminary evaluation results: SBR Course Evaluation Preliminary evaluation results: 108 individuals consented to participate, 40% responded to the surveys. 62% of consenting respondents were Faculty members or clinical research coordinators. Most had previous experience conducting social and behavioral research or clinical trials [8.9 and 8.3 years respectively]. On average participants completed the training over 4 days Most (59% - 91%) passed the knowledge checks on each module within two attempts.

Participants’ rated the course positively: SBR Course Evaluation Participants’ rated the course positively: 97% would recommended the training. Most agreed1 the training was relevant, engaging, useful or impactful.
