Presentation transcript:

Victoria Road Primary School Our Library

Our library is a magical place! Topic boxes for classroom use! Easy-to-use colour system. Tidy, clean and cared for! Clear sections and themed areas. Lots of space for class use!

Returning Books Books are returned into the return trolley outside the library. Our librarians empty the trolley each day and return the books to the correct place, neatly.

Popular authors Books by popular authors are displayed in their own special book case so you can find them easily. These are updated regularly.

Popular authors Roald Dahl Jacqueline Wilson David Walliams Micheal Morpurgo Anne Fine Enid Blyton Dick King Smith Cathy Cassidy

Colour System

Colour System Books are labelled with a coloured circular sticker on the spine. This shows where they need to go in the library.

Colour System The library is clearly labelled to show each coloured section.

Displayed Collections Some books don’t have a coloured label. This means they are part of a display and could have their own section or belong to a collection e.g Usbourne First Readers Kernowland Traditional Tales Christmas Books DK Marvel Books

Displayed Collections

Topic Boxes

Topic Boxes Non-fiction texts sorted by class topic. Topic boxes are taken, displayed and used in classrooms each term. Other non-fiction not linked to our curriculum topics are available in the rear turrets of the library for children to access.

Maps & Atlases The library has a clear section for maps and atlases for class use. These are returned to the library after use.

Poetry The library has a vast range of poetry books which can be used for learning and reciting poetry!

Engaging our children in books!

Book Review Station The librarians ensure that there are blank book reviews for children to complete. At the end of each half term the librarians choose the best review. The reviewer wins a book. Book reviews are displayed in a folder in the library.

Big Books Big Books in the library are used for whole class/group reading.

Themed Displays Our librarians update our themed displays e.g Seasons Halloween Christmas Authors Events

Librarian Job Roles

Enjoy our library – follow the rules!

Library Rules Take one book at a time. Treat books with care and respect. NO food or drink in the library. Look after furniture. Be quiet – respect other people’s quiet time. No running around. Return books to the trolley.

Enjoy!
