Pathway Apprenticeship An Apprenticeship program involves periods of work with a certified tradesperson and some time in the classroom. You must be 16 years of age and have at least Grade 10 – but the “Grade 12 Diploma is requested by all employers”. If you are attracted to money, consider the costs of university/college vs an apprenticeship. Go to the Ministry Office for general info

Apprenticeships Electrician Mechanic Millwright Brick mason Cabinet maker Plumber Tool and die maker A/C mechanic Baker Hair Stylist Cook Child and youth worker Horticulturalist Painter Educational assistant

(Private Training Colleges) Some programs are entered after high school with or without a diploma. i.e. hairdressing, air traffic controller, esthetician, secretary, ESL Teacher, etc. Some help with apprenticeship career tracks, but not always. Many of these programs advertise through newspapers, television, and phone books. The Guidance Office has some Private Training Colleges resources.

Research the school well…

College and University Pathway A few last comments: Budget your post-secondary schooling with your parents. OSAP applications open in spring. Earlier you apply the better, but there is no hard ‘deadline’. Pay attention to the conditions of your offer. Find out about supports at your school!

Conclusion Communicate with School Liasions Talk to Guidance, Teachers, Parents, etc. Hand in the Grad Surveys on your way out. Have a Plan!
