Amateur arts in Croatia: Current situation and needs

Croatian Cultural Association joined together the 972 amateur art groups and other legal persons with a total of 2.041 sections and 91 person dealing with literary and fine art. Within the Croatian Cultural Association acts: 195 choreographed folklore ensembles, 225 original folk group, 232 children folklore groups, 53 contemporary dance groups, 242 theater groups, 87 fine art sections, 50 literary sections, 139 brass bands, 15 mandolin orchestras, 111 tamburitza orchestras, 199 tamburitza bands, 244 choirs, 248 small vocal ensembles and 1 accordion orchestra. The total number of members in these 972 organizations is about 65.000.

At the regional and local level, a significant number of Croatian counties, cities and municipalities of the total 576, did not recognize the fact that the state gave up mainly of caring for amateur arts of regional and local levels and they did not ensure an organized and systematic preservation and development of amateur arts in their areas. In short, in these areas, we have the organizational, financial and even qualitative crisis of amateur arts. For the purpose of overcome organizational, financial and qualitative crises of amateur arts, Croatian Cultural Association proposes to adopt The law for amateur culture.
